What Scope for Solar System

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I read with interest a thread last month about Killer Planet Scopes, I am thinking of replacing my etx 127 with something bigger for solar system objects, I thought of the Celestron nextstar 8 se or the C-8 sgt, somthing similar.

Your thoughts Please.

Hi Keith

this is a question that I have been pondering over and also asking about.

General consensus seems to be a 5" or larger refractor or Mak.

You need to get the right relationship between aperture and focal length for visual planetary combined with a very good mount for tracking as the field of view is very small when at 200x plus magnification.

Refractors have the clear aperture which helps with contrast but obviously a Mak is more manageable.

I find this site very helpful when looking at different potential scopes.
