Skywatcher Mak 127 eyepiece adapter lube?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Just a quickie - when I back off the eyepiece adapter and rotate the star diagonal on my MAK 127 (to get a better eyepiece viewing position) I find that the clamping ring can sometimes be a little stiff to loosen and then as I turn the diagonal I get that metal against metal noise.

Is it wise to very lightly lubricate the threads and facings to make the movement run more smoothly?

If so which lube to use?

Or I am being a bit picky??!!

Many thanks

Robin

I find it easier to loosen the thumbscrew & rotate the diagonal that way.

But i guess a quick rub on the threads with a soft pencil might help.

SiriusB,

Thanks for the interest and tips - I'm going to see if any more emerge before committing. I am a little concerned about graphite particles getting into the optics - I may have to experiment on a non optical lube issue first.

I was wondering if any silicone products had been tried.
