Orion StarShoot Solar System Color Imager

Recommended Posts

Hi Dave, the Orion star Shoot Solar System Color Imager is definately only for planetary work. It is not sensitive enough for deep sky stuff. Here in Australia we have a video camera called the Gstar which handles both types of imaging and is under $1000, although it is probably not available in the UK.

The Orion StarShoot Solar System Color Imager is advertised as a planetary imager, but would it be up to imaging clusters and nebulous?

If not what other options are there for someone on a tighter budget?....

Your best bet is a DSLR (e.g Canon 450d), although some surprisingly good results can be obtained with a modified SPC880/900 webcam, such as this one (from Astronomy Shed forum). I believe you can pick these up for £95 or so, or modify your own.:
