afocal problem

I have recently upgraded the camera I have for afocal use from a very cheap, non zoom model, to a canon sx210. the problem is that I cannot get the frame to fill as I could with the old camera. I am using the same telescope (300pds) and eyepieces (Meade series 4000 plossls). With the old camera the lens had a sweet spot a few mm away from the eyepiece which would fill the frame up, trying this at different zoom settings with the new camera gives me only a Small round image of the eyepiece.... what am I missing here?
