Burning up over the south west

Hi All,

Well another strange obervation, was playing with my new SkyMAx 127 and saw a bright orange glow overhead. First one bit went overhead (out of sight within a minute), then another couple and finally 2 more, glowing bright orange all within the space of 5-10minutes. I would assume something was burning up.

Had a look with my binos but no idea what it was, tried to take a pic with camera but haven't checked if I caught anything. If the pic shows anything I will post it.

Pete

What you saw were Chinese Lanterns. People use them to celebrate some event, such as a Birthday, or other Anniversary.

They can be a nuisance to Astronomers, particularly imagers.

Also they can be a source of danger during a drought if they come down in woodland or wheat field, or a thatched roof whilst still lit. They can start a fire. No law against them, but there ought to be.

Ron.
