Polar alignment

Hi everyone, I am a complete newbie and seem to be having a bit of trouble getting polar aligned. Am I correct in thinking that when this is done correctly that to keep my object in view all I need to do is tweak the RA axis, should this be a perfectly horizontal move if done correctly or does the orientation not matter as long as only the RA is being used?

I may be on the right lines but am not sure.

Polar aligning can be a nightmare to some at first, you have an EQ5 so have a good read of Astro_Baby`s tutorial on Polar aligning, when this is done correctly movement in RA is normally all that is needed from then on, so long as you do not alter your basic mount settings. HTH
