Those Asterion dob mounts are sold out completely for the lighter version (up to 30kg) and the heavier duty version (50kg) are sold out for the 50-55 degrees latitude. The fact that they were made in Ukraine makes the question of whether they will ever be back in stock questionable.

Have you tried pointing the scope towards the ground? This may allow the secondary to drop back into place. You could also remove the corrector plate from the front of your scope giving you direct access to the secondary mirror.

I can reach focus comfortably with all my 1.25” eyepieces in my Stella Lyra 8” dobsonian, however I sometimes need the extension piece for some 2” eyepieces. Although I tend to just pull the eyepiece out a couple of mm rather than have to mess around.

It’s a matter of choice i suppose. In sizes over 12” I am in agreement with you. The dual axis equatorial platforms are pretty costly as well, although not as expensive as a GEM EQ.

If you are thinking about astrophotography then it’s got to be the EQ mount. This will accurately track and be guided in both axis. This won’t be cheap .The dobsonian mount can be a go to, a push to, or a manual. In the end it’s up to you what you want to do with your telescope, and how you intend to use it.

My 2” - 1.25” Baader clicklock arrived today along with a new Oklop bag for my Starfield.

I am the other way around. I predominantly just use my Morpheus range for the majority of my observing. If I need less magnification then I also have the 24mm ES 68 degree. If less again then I have the 32 & 40mm plossl’s. If wide field is desired then the 2” EP’s come out only then.

It’s those clouds in the way again, otherwise I would be out tonight enjoying the sky. I’ve mounted it on the Starfield and using a standard compression ring reducer until the clicklock arrives tomorrow.

I rushed to buy the last Baader diagonal incase someone beat me to it. Oh well it’s on the way now.

I have just ordered the Baader 2” - 1.25” adapter as well. A clicklock in a clicklock. I forgot I would need one for my Morpheus eyepieces. I will wait for it to arrive before putting the diagonal on my scope.

My new 2” Baader diagonal arrived this morning for my 102 Starfield. This relegates my Tak 1.25” to my Maksutov. I like the black Baader Planetarium bag it came in. PS:- I didn’t see the tiny Allen key hiding in the corner of the clear plastic bag it was all contained in.

If you decide to store it vertically then the mirror down would be my choice. The locking screws are longer than the black collimation screws so there is no weight being borne by the collimation screws. I actually store mine fully assembled with the telescope horizontal.

Which 30 or 31mm eyepieces would you recommend i should be considering? Thanks in advance Ian

It’s on a new EQ5 pro synscan mount, so the weight of the diagonal and ep is not really a decisive factor.

I am in the same mindset as yourself as I also sold most of my 2” eyepieces to keep it simple. I predominantly prefer using my Morpheus range 4.5-17.5mm, above which I bridged the gap by a ES 24mm 68 degrees. I also find this more than enough in my f7. I also have 32 & 40mm Celestron plossl’s , the later of which is used as a finder. I found the 1.25” Takahashi diagonal prism to be tack sharp so I’m not looking to change it. Thanks Ian
