  1. Yes we have no means of describing a colour as we each experience it. It's another limitation on our method of communication.
  2. Could always go simple and use a plumb bob on a short length of fine fishing line. Could make it part of the mount. The longer it is the more accurate it is. Can do the initial setup/calibration using a basic builders spirit level.
  3. Chicken creates an egg, egg magically transforms itself into another chicken, first chicken eventually dies. It would have been much more efficient to just stay as one chicken in the first place !
  4. It is indeed a huge problem for us to answer, a problem that makes the whole thing infinitely mysterious for us. Bare in mind that the human race is far from logical, it can be good at skirting around things it can't answer A bit like how atoms have become self aware ? .. that's what you call real high tech ! .. is it the universes way of trying to understand itself ? .. it all gets very strange very quickly, but all quite real, or is it
  5. ah, but they don't always have a winner, we can very easily go for some weeks where nobody wins the top prize. But yes someone lucky moo will always win - in the end. I guess if the universe was designed, then we'd be at a complete loss for how that something was able to design such a thing, we'd just be pushing the problem back a layer/stage rather than concentrating on this layer/stage ?
  6. If you could create and manipulate a gravitational well ahead of a vehicle that acted on all parts of it with equal 'intensity', inertia would not be a problem, every atom/molecule of the vehicle and it's contents would accelerate from zero to any desired speed without any inertial effects at all because every molecule would be equally effected and so move in perfect synch, including any bio mass within said vehicle (just like dropping it from a great height). So the vehicle (or whatever it could possibly be) could I guess be constructed of just about anything, all you need is the know-how on how to create the required gravitational well, no kind of primitive pusher propulsion would be required (rockets, ion drive etc).
  7. Trouble is, we don't know where else to look for answers if the detail (of everything) is out of bounds, we don't know where else to turn for said answers. We'd so very much like to converse with our alien neighbours to help try and gain some understanding of our predicament, but that's never really going to happen is it, we can't even communicate with our co-habitants, our relatives on planet Earth, those whom we've evolved along side with from the very beginning, those we're related too, those we've evolved from, those we live with 24/7. It's like labels, if we don't label absolutely everything from (again) the tiniest to the biggest, we'd be lost. We can never refer to an unlabelled 'thing' in any way shape or form if said 'thing' has no label. It's a huge flaw with our method of communication (spoken language).
  8. A lot of people have an unstoppable need to find a reason for being here, or for anything at all being here. It's like a hunger that needs feeding. Curiosity has got the better of us - for better or worse.
  9. It could be that we just happen to exist in this universe because it just happened that this universe has the right params due to pure chance after an unimageable number of other universe begin/end cycles ? Though I question all of it, I don't for one moment believe that any of this is at all by chance,. We tell ourselves we're working it all out by looking out, looking in, etc,, but all we're really doing is looking at the tiniest part of it all, a view of it's surface if you like with no possible way of seeing beyond said surface of what we think we're seeing. We can't even prove it's real or not, we can't prove it's physical, a dream, a hiccup of some sort or anything else we might consider. When I think about what's REALLY going on here (i,e atoms arranging themselves into mind blowingly complicated arrangements that give rise to self movement, thought, feeling, thinking, awareness, arrogance, fear etc etc etc), I can't help but feel certain that it's not something we can ever come to terms with about how the hell it's actually happening or even existing in the first place. What would it take to create such a system from nothing at all if we thought we could do so, baring in mind that we and nothing else would exist in the first place to get it going in the first place ?
  10. Yes MS will certainly overcome the ability to install win11 on PC's that are just a couple years old at some point (if you allow win11 updates), so becareful about trusting the current work arounds. Just make sure you do a full drive image backup (I use clonezilla on a USB stick) before hand so that you can go back to it when the time comes. Everyone now knows the big tech companies can continue to do whatever they want without restriction in this world, fortunately that will come to an end at some point in the furture, just not yet Being made to simply throw away really nice hardware is insane to say the least. My laptop is a Dell i7 3GHz with 16GB ram and 500GB SSD etc, yet MS are saying it's no longer a valid PC ! .. this is terrible state of affairs to say the least. Any OS can be made safe by coding in suitable protection. and most all motherboards can have their firmware (bios) updated if the manufactures really wanted to do so (but would have a drastic effect on their profits). CPU's can be swapped out etc etc. It's really no wonder the human race is heading for a fall
  11. Taking it to the extreme, ie to the edge of an event horizon of a black hole, any photons that cross the threshold towards the center of the well are doomed to move towards the center, any photons just outside of the event horizon (by the tiniest amount) have a chance at moving directly away. Is the event horizon threshold have zero thickness (towards or away from the center with no if's or buts, a logic 0 or 1) or does it have some thickness, ie could a photon be right on the threshold of being able to move away but with an equal but opposite pull (if you like) towards the center ? .. ie could it end up 'suspended' there (assuming nothing else is around to effect the well).
  12. As light is affected/bent by gravity, then the speed of a photon moving away from the center of gravity (say the Earth) will be different to the speed of a photon moving directly towards the center of gravity - one way that the speed in each direction can be asymmetric.
  13. I don't know, but my laptop has always been incompatible with Windows 11 (it's always told me so anyway). but a few days ago MS was giving me the chance to update Windows 10 pro on my Dell E6540 laptop to Windows 11 pro, I turned the update down (it showed up in the windows update option), it now says my laptop is not compatible again (no changes made at all) - not sure what that's about.
  14. I myself aren't saying C can/is different in any direction, but I'm guessing someone is. Finding a practical method to physically prove anything in physics can only help with confirming our ideas of how we as a race of beings is telling itself how the universe appears to work/be (ignoring the fact that the whole thing is most certainly beyond anything we could ever truly comprehend anyway).
  15. To measure the time it takes for light to travel in each individual direction.
  16. Two clocks with laser TX/RX's, each with a mirror for the other clock to use as a reflector. Each clock measures the round trip time and then remembers the average round trip time of the two measurements to use as a reference round trip time. Both clocks start continuously TX'ing their pulses (not to often though). Clock 2 phase locks it's TX pulse to the RX'ed pulse from clock 1, it then offsets it's TX pulse by half the pre-determined (the averaged) round trip time taken at the start - this will phase lock (synchronize) the clocks TX pulse with the other clocks TX pulse - IF the speed of light is the same in both directions. If the speed of light is actually the same in both directions, clock 1 should RX the pulse from clock 2 at exactly half the averaged round trip time measured at the start (and visa-versa). If either clock see's a difference in the two pulses (TX'ed pulse and RX'ed pulse), then the speed of light is different between the directions. Yes ? ps. a simple 2D animation would make it much more easy to see the method/result, but I don't have an easy way to create the animation.
  17. 1902_006_AR_EN.mp4 https://dlmultimedia.esa.int/download/public/videos/2019/02/006/1902_006_AR_EN.mp4https://www.esa.int/ESA_Multimedia/Videos/2019/02/Distribution_of_space_debris_in_orbit_around_Earth
  18. Indeed, but we're pretty sure that this also applies to most everything the human race is doing, our shear level of denial is ever so comforting - so long as we continue to pretend it's not real.
  19. Yes your right Ags, it shouldn't be used to search for facts that you need to be correct, it's a language A.I bot, not a source of factual information.
  20. One interesting test was done with it and published here .. https://astronomy.com/news/2022/12/we-asked-chatgpt-your-questions-about-astronomy-it-didnt-go-so-well The trouble is, what it gives back sounds like it's quite correct and very confident about what it returns, but it's very deceptive. You really have to not take what it says at face value.
  21. Very nice ! Just as a matter of fact (I expect you already know anyway), you can now get 10 (I think 4-layer) PCB's, silk screened etc made (up to 10cm square) for like £15 inc vat/postage total - in case anyone prefers to have a nice looking non-prototype result.
  22. I'm afraid the lumps destination has moved, NASA's attempt to knock it off coarse only moved it's destination by a few miles
  23. Laser measurements/scans from orbit to the surface (done 24/7) are normally done using none-visible wavelengths I think. Using different wavelengths returns differing information on specific features of the atmosphere/ground, but not sure what green returns. A satellite would have to be quite high up to create almost parallel beams like that.
