  1. What would be some other accessories?
  2. Yeah together the 6inch dob with accessories costs 250 meanwhile the scope only on the 8 inch is 283. Actually with the accessories the 8 inch costs 319(same as the eq lol) Would collimating be a bigger issue because of the lower f ratio?
  3. Is there seriously that much difference 8inch f6
  4. But do I stretch for the 8 inch (aperture fever lol) 70 quid extra!
  5. Ok, Thanatos to John, Stu and Alkaid I have decided for a skywatcher 6inch dob, with polarising filter, and an extra Celestron 6mm eyepiece for 200x planetary. Stable Mount, great optics. Great Magnification and soon I may buil an eq platform. Got a lot of wood in the garage!
  6. Oh I get it así ally just counters the earths rotation and so it tracks normally. I will definitely try to make this once I get the skills! Also cool telescope!
  7. How would you get the slow motion control thing?
  8. Is there any way of making that eq Mount for the dob. I shall look in to that because I knew something like that existed. Tracking for me does not mean GoTo as I have not clarified
  9. Yeah so is the life of a brit. I have not seen the moon for 4 days! So many clouds!
  10. So let’s say I use a 50degrees eyepiece and a Barlow plus 10mm. 1200mm focal length. How long would I have until Saturn/anything went out of view?
  11. Haha I just finished watching this vid!
  12. What are some ways to track using a dobsonian?
  13. Yeah, Ik moderator, I just want to find some first hand experience rather than approximations... Sidenote: I hate text because you can’t express mood like you can with your voice and this can cause a problem. I love this forum because people here are friendly and have experience. Every time I write something (horrible spell that’s why there’s so many edits) I mean it in a good way.
  14. So what is a good alternative for tracking on dobsonian any ideas? Also refractor glass is probs miles more heavy than a reflector, so let’s stick with people who have experienced this please.
  15. So the dob Mount but lose tracking is the main idea I like it keep talking. The more the merrier. What is an Eq dob Mount?
  16. Hello Nair al Saif (Iota Orionis) here, Recently, I have concluded that a 150mm long Focus length reflector is the best option (Thanks John). I mainly like planetary and BSO. 75:25 split really. I’m mainly a visual observer tho smartphone imaging is nice. Budget is under/around 300quid. So now it’s the battle of the mounts, the question is: Do I sacrifice Tracking for a stable mount, or do I get an eq3-2 Mount for a 6inch reflector but lose some stability. Portability isn’t an issue, backyard astronomer. The two telescopes are: Skywatcher 6inch Dobsonian on Flo (219 pounds) or: Skywatcher 150PL Eq3-2 (319 pounds) BTW it’s worth noting that the 8 inch skywatcher dob is 289 pounds!
  17. Thanks so much. I shall buy the dobsonian Mount then probably upgrade to an eq Mount. Or I could (most likely save up to the 319 eq Mount)
  18. Out of 10 how noticeable is the difference and is it worth shelling out an extra 155 quid. yeah Ik Ik it’s not funny, just like to make the world a joke-ier place.
  19. If it’s possible can you post an image of planets/dso using a 6inch reflector.
  20. No no there is a f8 lol here’s the link. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/reflectors/skywatcher-explorer-150pl-eq3-2.html My apologies, tracking for me doesn’t mean GoTo it means eq mount.
  21. Their is a 150pl on eq3-2 same stats as the dob made by skywatcher. Ok if the difference is so much more I am interested then.
  22. Hi Nair Al Saif (Iota Orionis)here, Recently on this forum I have had a discussion about 6 inch reflector vs a 90mm refractor on an eq Mount. I like planetary visual astronomy, and deep sky visual astronomy. 75:25 split really. Many people say the frac is better eg(Allan hall), many people recommend the flector. I know that aperture rules but I would like not to participate with the nudging ritual as I do have family that also like astronomy (would probably like to see Saturn rings etc) and personally I need a bit of tracking. The way I see it is: The reflector though better views, looses on contrast, maintenance, cool down, tracking, air currents and dew. Portability isn’t a major factor since I will be observing from my backyard. The refractor has Ca (negligible for me as the model is close to the Sigwick standard) but looses on aperture however as it doesn’t have a secondary mirror, it has far better contrast and the aperture gap is not as big. Btw the models are evostar 90 and 6inch dob from skywatcher. There is also the startravel 102 (maybe the 120) but that is a fast frac. Also, thanks for the guys on the previous chat (Alkaid) for providing their opinion. I ask this question again to try and see what the masses would recommend. Lastly if anyone has any other recommendations less than 300 quid. Please don’t hesitate- tryning to get the full board here! Ps: I haven’t seen the moon, mars the red smudge above my neighbours house, Saturn and Jupiter that are two white smudges following each other, or any stars in ages, darn dirty clouds!
  23. So I think I will buy the 90mm frac and then maybe buy a 8 inch dob or a Maksutov a couple years from now when I become adjusted.
