  1. That is very good. I really like some of the subtle details on and in the bubble that can get blown out.

Why did you choose to go down the dual route as I am guessing you have better skies than in UK?, at least more reliable skies. Were you tempted to load both scopes into the Mesu? I ask as I went down the multi-scope approach purely as a weather beater and am always interested to hear what and why others chose that route.

  2. Thanks Adam. There is ‘frame adaptation’ as part of the StarAlignment process. I usually have it enabled but since this is off by default I cannot remember if I ticked the box or not. Maybe not this time! Also the O111 wasn’t as well focussed as it could have been. Either or both could be at fault here.

I have used DSC Labs in Manchester for printing in the past. They have a great selection of options and always a fast turnaround.

  3. I took this back in August as a 2x1 mosaic. The letterbox final image is due to there being quite a mismatch between the positioning of the two sets of subs and a fair crop was required. On this version I have gone for an SHO palette and although there isn't a great deal going on on the right hand side, I quite like the contrast between the blue O111 and the more golden Ha dominated left side. Located in Cygnus, this nebula is approx 5000LY from Earth

This is a total of 22x15' Ha, 30x15'O111 and 40x15' S11 (I had to reject a lot of Ha). Processed in Pixinsight.

    Thanks for looking

  4. Martin - Thanks. I would have to sell my organs (nobody would want them!) the house and the kids to even think about that! Might be worth it though

Carole - I tried making it more red but it lost definition very quickly so I plumped for the paper look with a little more on the dragon to draw it out a bit more. What I really want to know is how to turn 5” imaging into 0.7 😃

  5. My foray into faint objects carried on with this attempt at the Dragon. I have not done it justice and am all ears if anyone has suggestions as to improvements.
This is HaRGB with around 38 hours of 2x2 Ha and approx 3 hours each for RGB.

  6. Thanks both, it was quite an experience chasing this down. I was surprised at just how faint this was and I believe it was only discovered in the 80s so isn’t widely known, but for me one of the most photogenic PNs up there. I know Pete is working on a much closer version so expect to see that fairly soon, and from what I’ve seen so far it’s going to be very good.

  7. I have @Petergoodhew to thank for the suggestion of this object. Taken with my widefield rig (Tak FC100DF with Atik16200 and FSQ85 with QSI683) this is an extremely faint pair of objects that needed around 30 hours O111 and around 20 hours of Ha, both taken in 2x2bin 1200" frames. This made my acquisition image scale around 5.2"/p but i registered to a few frames of 1x1bin subs in an attempt to reduce the impact. Despite this, it ended up being a very noisy stack and process. All frames taken between 28th and 30th October. This has been cropped slightly. Once i get my longer fl scope back I would love to try this again at 0.7"/p

  8. So many things went wrong here that i hesitated to post, but here we go.

A badly framed Iris Nebula (NGC7023) to Ghost Nebula (SH2-136) taken with a triple rig through a light hazy sky a couple of weeks ago. I convinced myself to image on the basis there hadn't been any clear nights for around three weeks prior. The dew band failed on one scope and so the frames were useless, and another (doing the rgb) rotated a few degrees as you can see from the top right corner. Cropping cuts too close to the Iris so I have just ignored this for now. The night finished early as the clouds rolled in (and never left). Frustrating, but a good exercise and most importantly it was fun to get out. This is approx 5 hours L taken in 10' frames and 5 hours rgb taken in 5' frames.

  9. Despite the full moon period, the recent run of clear skies was too much temptation so i turned to the NAN and PN having never imaged them before. I obviously ran out of imagination as this is a 1x2 mosaic which i just kept taking for the four clear nights we had locally. Cropped by approx 25% and I can see some corner issues so will have to look at spacing.

    Thanks for looking.

  10. Your blood sweat and tears certainly produced an excellent image. I can’t think I’ve seen them all presented in this manner before and mores the pity.

Many people, me especially, focus in on individual objects but when you are aware of the detail and then see them aligned together gives a sense of how they all fit to our view. 👍🏼

  11. LDN1251 is a dusty molecular cloud situated in a busy region of Cepheus that includes many dark nebulae including the shark I had a look at a while ago. It is approx 14LY across and 1000LY distant.

This image came from my triple widefield rig and consists of

    L - 74 x 10’ and 75 x 7’

    R - 24 x 5’ G - 31 x 5’ B - 21 x5’

I found this object difficult to draw out hence the dominance of the luminance channel. I also tried drizzleintegration to improve the resolution from the native 2.7-3.2”/p.

c&c always welcome. Thanks for looking

  12.  My wife now tells me that it wasn’t a power cut but more that the trip switch in the main shed (that feeds the electric to my obs) had tripped so something had gone bang off that circuit. I now suspect that it was the mount going pop as everything else on that circuit works. Looks like I will definitely have to get IK/Baader etc involved.

Does the mount respond to the power toggle button?

My controlbox died suddenly 3 years ago, Baader handled repair and shipping UPS shipping with pickup for free.
If you can't get it working again i suggest you contact Baader to prepare for sending in the controlbox/hand controller.

The button is the only way i can get this far. If it was the control box and hand controller I would take that as it would mean not stripping everything off the mount. I hope IK could organise any return should it be necessary. Do Baader own 10M now?

  14. After a recent power cut i opened up my shed this evening to setup and i have no mount (GM2000). Power is getting to the mount but nothing seems to be happening as in the handset gets as far as the picture attached. For info, the mount power supply is connected through a UPS as both a surge protector and a protection against those silly on/off powercuts that we seem to get occasionally; i would expect the UPS to work for at least an hour in the event of a powercut.

I have removed and reset all the cables anyway but nothing changes this status so I am really hoping that there is a nice easy fix, or an easy reset button that I'm just not aware of 😉

Unfortunately 10M support is away till 2nd September. I have contacted Ian King but on the small chance someone has seen this before and knows what to do I might still get my night??

    Any help gratefully received thanks

  15. Thanks all very much for the comments; i am fairly pleased as this was only ever to be an experiment, and nearly ended up being lost data.

I think my fundamental problem is that I don't have enough data and i'm sure that would go a long way to address Rodd and Alan's feedback
