I was only teasing! I’ll have to agree with you on the 8inch reflectors, I wish I’d done some more research when looking for my first scope. I would trade my 127 SCT for one in a heartbeat.

Your Canon DSLR will use the aperture of the telescope, which is fixed, whereas a lens is able to alter its aperture.

The 224MC is great, it’s what I use for my lunar and planetary photography. If your budget can stretch then I’d agree with Noah and go with that

+1 for StarSense. I’ve got it on my 5SE and it makes aligning a breeze

Not sure if you can get it separate from the rings? You can get another set of rings which come with that part for £21 from FLO.

Are you wanting to use the camera purely for visual observation, or for photography as well? Something like this would be more than suitable for visual, and will work well if ever you decide to try your hand at some planetary AP.

As John mentioned a rough budget would help with recommendations. 

I started off with a NexStar 5SE (I still have it!) and I think it's superb. It's somewhat similar to the SW 127 and has a GoTo system, which I think is nice for beginners. The long focal length is good for planets.

I suppose so yes. It’s a smidge lighter than the 200P, so a HEQ5 would have no problem with it. It’s faster as well, as you say, and much better suited for AP in general. If the OP wants more focal length at a more manageable size and weight it’s much better.

To quote FLO however; Fast newtonians are best suited to experienced astronomers. They require precise collimation and a coma corrector to reach their full potential.

Saying that, it may be worthwhile learning collimation…
