  1. I am using an old carry-on sized suit case for my mount, both for storage and transport. It's kind of an intermediate between a soft case and a hard case. Allows me to roll it and the case itself is light weight. Possibly not as good as a really hard case, but I just didn't want all the extra weight that would come with that, and it protects adequately for my needs. If you are looking for something harder perhaps a second-hand heavy duty plastic suit case that you could then apply foam or padding to inside?
  2. Thought about the 3 wheel furniture dollies, but I some reviews I've seen of those seem to show you've got to be very careful rolling them over cracks or uneven surfaces incase they tip. At first I was thinking of making one myself from scraps of wood, but I'm not sure if my skills or supplies will permit me to make a really good one. I must admit the price of the wheelie bars is quite intimidating, but if they work well, they could really increase the usage of my set up. I'm still debating...
  3. Great! How do you find using it?
  4. Must be someone out there surely?! They seem to be a European version of the JMI wheeley bars. I'm thinking of getting a small shed to house my mount/telescope and then rolling it all out using wheeley bars onto the patio.
  5. I bought a couple of M8 70 mm knobs off amazon and they are viable alternatives to the standard knobs, allowing the jaws of the dovetail clamp to be opened a little further than with the standard knobs (which have a length of 60 mm). The only thing I don't like is that the new knobs have a smaller diameter than the stock ones, which makes turning them slightly harder.
  6. Has anyone any experience of using these?
  7. I feel your pain, and asked a similar question for my Atlas AZ-EQ-G... My LX200 has a broad Losmandy dovetail that means the saddle clamp has to opened until the screws almost come off before it can be settled on the mount.... Screws will tighten well after this however and it is very secure once on. Some of the issue might be just getting used to how to place the OTA, which is quite heavy. I think as I get more accurate at placing it on, possibly the screws might not need to be widened so far. I find it safest to (after the counterweights are on) place the tube on the saddle with the latitude nearly horizontal, tighten up the saddle and secure the OTA, and then adjust to the right latitude. So I'm also looking for longer screws or may be a replacement saddle in the future.
  8. I've got the same gap and flimsy plastic cover and aluminium disc on my Atlas AZ-EQG... Why do they make the metal disc so thin? It's so easy to warp it.
  9. John1: Atlas AZ/EQG... Just finding the screws (on the saddle knobs) a bit short. They almost fall out with how wide I have to make it to put my dovetail on. So I'd feel better of they were just a bit longer. But may be that's not possible by the design. Counterweights knobs are just a bit small to grip, so something a bit chunkier. John2: Ah great! Will check them out.
  10. Not too happy with the knobs on my dovetail saddle, or on the counterweights. Does anyone know of a good supplier of replacement knobs?
