  1. If you fancy trying something out I have an app called polar alignment pro it does everything right from levelling the tripod , it will let you do a day time polar alignment by mounting your phone on the mount were the dove tail will fit , I did a few polar alignments  over a few nights using the polar scope and then checked it with the app and the app showed as spot on , I would not say use it for photography long exposures but for visual it's 100%

It's worth a try it is not dear  they do it for Android and iPhones

  2. Hi found the polar scope was hard to start off , a tiny tiny adjustment moves it a long way , but what the guys have said does work , only do the polar scope adjustment when you have loads of time you can't rush it

Set up the tripod level and at a height so you can sit and look into the polar scope then follow what the guys have said , if it starts to get worse stop walk away have a cuppa then go back to it take your time and move the grub screws a tiny tiny adjustment it will come right in the end

If you have a long living room / dining room you can put a target at one end of the room and do the adjustment in doors you want a dot  about an inch in size , I found this video helped

  3. Hi everyone here is my story , was on eBay found a Celestron astro master 130  on bids or offer so I put offer in of £50 the guy never even answered me , it didn't sell week later he sold it for £49 be should had took my £50 lol

So in the mean time I found powerseeker 114 EQ  new un used so paid for it when I got it OMG used and abused so with the help of the members on here it got cleaned mirrors ,collimated and used then the focuser failed just as that happened a skywatcher 150/750 on an EQ3-2 came up local so I got it omg what a nice telescope so flocked it put springs I the main mirror , made a really good friend on here wookie1965 , he sent me a message that a Orion Optics VX8l on a HEQ5 came up for sale an hour from me ,so put in an offer of £600 said to my wife I want get it for that price so will be ready to pay out a bit more , OMG I got back a yes so picked it up flocked it made Wilcox rings and this is were I am at now , works well with the eyepieces I upgraded on John's advice

John that a hell of a list of telescope I had to Google a lot of them

Sorry its a long story but would like to thank everyone on here for helping me so I am were I am now

  4. Hi and a warm welcome I also started with the 114 powerseeker but mine had been used and abused ment to have been new ( long story)

If you get stellarium on your phone as well as your  pc , phone is not free but it's well worth £7.50 your be able to hold your phone up to the sky and it will tell you what your looking at which helps you learn , and has loads of info on the object your looking at

  5. My biggest problem is my wife is short and I am tall so if I raise the telescope to much she can't use it , so I am going for the option of not looking at targets over head so the leg problem won't come up , I still needed to balance it with Telrad on as well as spotter scope which the wheel balance weights worked 100% and also let me side telescope up in the dove tail by an inch

  6. Hi everyone ok here's the update golf club weights didn't make any impact , the car wheel balance weights work really well I have raised the telescope an inch and added a Telrad and balance is perfect I had to use 3 strips of , I had more I could have raised the telescope 2 inches but 1 inch will help it may even stop the telescope from hitting the leg

All the weights are stuck on the back of the mirror mount in layers so can't be seen ,just waiting to give it a test run if the sky is clear later

  7. Well I was lucky Eton college near Windsor let the public in to there observatory they have a huge telescope I lined up for about 2 hours to Get in but was so worth it , I will be 100 when it comes round again I may not live that long , but I can still remember what I saw through the eyepiece and will never forget it

Hi Neil, hopefully you mean on the OTA rather than in? Wouldn't be good for one to drop onto the mirror if it got a bump...

Hi a while back I had to move mirror forward to get it to focus so I have a gap at the back of the OTA were the fan is , I don't think I need a lot of weight so just to try it ,I have some golf club balance weights coming they are sticky backed oval in shape if I use all I will have 24grams extra weight I could always add some car wheel balance weights as well , I will let you know how I get on

  9. Hi everyone as you know the upgrade bolts with the ratchet hits the polar scope and you can't refit polar cap as the ratchet is bigger than it used to be , Zolton at 365astronomy does upgrade bolts which look like the bolts the mount came with but are tougher stainless steel he has the short ones in stock and has the longer one coming in next week sometime just in case any one wants some
