  1. Ok could you suggest any for me im pretty well out my depth on this one Regards Baz
  2. Hi guys. Ok ive had my nikon dslr modded to full spectrum. So now I get red a lot of red even after processing its red with not much else in colour is this normal . I'm being told that I now need to put an ir cut filter in but that seems like a waste of time since I had it taken out for the mod in the first place I'm a bit confused so any advice is welcomed this is the kind of thing I'm getting is this what's to be expected ? Best regards and thanks as always
  3. Hi guys after just having my dslr converted to full spec ir what WB setting should I be using just let it be at auto or use the pre set and set it up for grass etc as its done for regular ir photography. Thanks in advance . Regards Baz
  4. Hi again guys . Ok I'm reading a lot of info on this subject but I'm getting really confused the more I read. If I remove the ir blocking filter from the camera do or don't I need another filter fitting for astro photography and ir photography. I've read this article about removing the filter on the D90 https://www.randombio.com/d90infrared.html#wb. But it does seem to suggest I would still need a filter for astro and ir . I'm more than a bit confused with the subject 😐. Is there anyone that uses the modded unfiltered camera for astro and ir terrestrial photos if so will I need a filter on the lense for terrestrial . Best regards Confused ??
  5. Thank you ill post up some images of the strip down and ifcthe sky ever clears some photos of the results. Thanks again guys Regards
  6. I think I'll just do it and strip it over the next day or two see what I've got once it's done . So I seem to remember that when I did the d70 all pics had a pink or red cast to them am I correctvin thinking this is removed by adjusting the Wb to shoot a custom one and if so do I use the custom wb when shooting astro stuff or use the gradient extractor in processing regards Baz
  7. Thanks old timer and hope your having a good day . That's a nice shot . Did you find it did not focus through your lenses or did you replace the glass etc . I'm thinking of the naked sensor mod and was reading it can mess up your focus . Regards Baz
  8. Hi guys . Ok after some real testing I found that the nikon D70s can't be controlled via APT . This in mind it would be a shame to rip apart the Almost new 17k operations D70s as it would not give me what I was looking for such as plate solving in APT . This in mind I've now got a nikon D90 to convert . Its again in really good condition and I need a little more info from anyone who has modded their camera to the naked sensor mod . In specific assuming I've taken the lot out as the nikons are bonded can I only use the camera for astro work or would I be able to put a lense on and do ir photography . And processing what do I need to do differently to to tame the red in the photos that gives an overall red cast or do I use an auto wb or a custom wb . Sorry for the questions but I need to know before I potentially ruin a perfectly good camera As always guys thanks in advance and all the best for the new year and have a great Xmas. Best regards baz
  9. Thanks guys . The nikon filter us as stated a bonded unit so it may be a full spectrum is the only option . I can't lie I had a d70 a few years back and stripped out the filter and reassembled it and I had no idea what I was doing took a few pics and everything had a red hue ....I thought I had ruined it and threw it away I later discovered it was supposed to be like that 😝😝. I never had chance to use it astro wise so I've now gained a little more knowledge and I have purchased a new D70s thst I plan on converting . I do a range of objects galaxy and nebulae so I think I'll do the full spec mod and if the results are poor on galaxy I can drop back to the unmodded d90 . Thanks for the help and advice guys itsore than appreciated. Kind regards Baz
  10. Thank you. Do you have any of the formentioned ha nebulae to show . Regards Baz
  11. What should I expect full spectrum mate Regards Baz
  12. Well I'm using a skywatcher 200p without a coma corrector so is it OK to remove the whole shebang and just have the raw sensor is so what can I expect to improve if anything. The camera won't be used for anything but astrophotography via my newt so won't need auto focus . Here is a pic I've got from my unmodded d90 will the modded improve this . Thanks guys
  13. Hi guys . I've read a lot of threads about modding my dslr nikon for dso and I'm even more confused than I was . So looking for a quick answer to the question of if I remove the filter in front of my camera sensor fo I or do I not have to replace it with another filter . I was under the assumption that if I removed it that was it and happy days but after reading all the different threads I'm not so sure it's even worth doing . As always thanks in advance guys . Kind regards Baz
  14. This is it right now see pic I'm going to try calibration again and take another look at it it proper doing my head in now . Regards Baz
  15. Hmm would that happen if wasn't true south and more east
  16. Hi well I thought it was but now I'm not sure now . Ok so I slewed it round on the ra to rough south then set the Dec at 0 and calibrated there but not to any named star just what ever was on the guide camera . Do you have a pic of the scope position when it in its calibrating position and I can see if it looked at mine . The scope was pointing south the Dec at 0 and the counter weight bar was pointing to the east. Regards baz
  17. ok done it but not that sure its much better it looks it but im still getting better results with apt dither guiding have a look at the log give me your thoughts Regards Baz PHD2_GuideLog_2021-12-01_165832.txt
  18. Hi guys I'm using my nikon dslr d90 . So the other day when it was cold I took around 500 images at 30 second exposures and stacked them in Dss . No flats darks only lights . The reason it was only lights is when I used the flats darks etc it made the issues worse anyway this is a screen shot of the resulting stack . I had used apt dither but still ended up with banding lines down the image. And that glow over the horse head is glow not a reflection and ive not a clue where that came from . Any thoughts on trying to sort this out Best regards Barrie
  19. Hi mate . Ok ill givevit a try with the new settings . One last thing when I tip the scope south pointing and set the Dec at 0 . I see in the eqmod screen that it says pier West pointing does that mean that the Weught bar should be pointing to the west or east . Regards Baz
  20. Hi mate thank you. How did you get the pixel scale. My scb camera pixel size is from the info I can get are 6.35 x 7.40 microns in size So I read the instructions and dialed in the 7.4 . And yep I got it wrong and your bang on the money fl is 240 mm . So me getting these setting wrong how will this effect the guiding . Please excuse the simple questions but I need to know the reason behind it otherwise I'd not be learning anything with just a set of settings etc . If my logic is correct it would think it is looking at a part of sky which in reality would be bigger or smaller given the settings than it really is so the corrections would be a mile and a yard out (am I correct ) Again thanks for taking the time to help it is more than appreciated. Kindest regards Baz
  21. Ok guys here is the log from last night . I hope you can see why it wasnt able to guide at all last night Possibly one of the most fustrating things ive ever got into Best regards Baz PHD2_GuideLog_2021-11-28_091717.txt PHD2_GuideLog_2021-11-21_103045.txt
  22. Its the 27th I needed but it wasn't there in the log folder I'll upload last nights when I get home from work. Cheers guys
  23. Good morning. Is there anyway to trial a dummy test inside without any stars etc basically to test the mechanics of the mount etc . After I stopped guiding and allowed the guiding to be done with apt dither it was ok and was getting about 90 second exposures like that . It is an older mount that has seen some use
  24. Real weird one tonight no matter what I did I could not get it to calibrate nor guide it h Just would not follow the guide star and then it had some sort of conflict 5hat restarted my handset that my laptop controls to everytime I tried to guide it shut it off which meant restarting from scratch I'll upload the log file but it was nearly kicked around the garden had to let it be for tonight . Regards Baz
