  1. Hi, Guillaume, and welcome to SGL.

I just acquired a BORG 55 fl 3.6 and can not do the Back Focus

According to this site the optimal distance is 60mm, which is a bit different to the standard 55mm obtained with the extension tubes that come with the 1600, so I am guessing you would need to get an extra 5mm T2 extension tube to add between the camera and the scope.

    Enjoy the journey.

Not sure what you mean here

    From my laptop I have:

    (1) eqmod cable connected to mount to run that

    (2) usb cable [currently plugged into usb2 ... which is the problem] to camera hub, through which camera (by means of sharpcap), guiding (by means of PHD2) and filterwheel (by means of SX software that came with the wheel) are controlled.

  3. This might be a really dumb question (what else is new?), but my (windoze 10) laptop's usb3 port stopped working, which is a pain. Would it be possible/a pain/a cinch to put one of these beauties between my camera (via usb3) and laptop (via ethernet) and carry on using my usual windoze software regardless, but getting back the usb3 speed?

  4. Your problem will be keeping your subject on target. For planetary and lunar imaging, it might be possible to keep the object in near enough the same position by 'nudging' while observing through the finder so that the stacking software (registax) can produce a sort of decent result.

Not the easy way of doing it and don't expect too great a result, but it might inspire you to work towards a tracking mount ...

As for DSO's - forget it!

If you do give it a go, let us know how you get on.

  5. More frames will generally help, but only if they are the same quality. When the prog selects 75% it is including a lot of lower quality frames. 10% of 5x as many frames should give a better result - except that you can start getting planetary rotation undermining that. There are progs that can compensate - I think winjupos is one, but wait for confirmation on that before purchasing.
