    picking one.

    Hi

    The Bresser.

The mount and the focuser are superior. The former allows you to rotate the tube, a godsend with this size of telescope. The latter is a massive 2-1/2 inch low ratio geared affair which  -in contrast to the gso- does not tilt and retains the same focus position when locked.

The Bresser is also easily mounted on an EQ mount should you decide at a later date you can afford an eq8 and do deep sky astrophotography (!).

    Cheers and HTH

Disclaimer: my only hands on was with a Bresser 10" and a Omegon (gso) 10" with the -superior- linear rail focuser and it was not a side by side comparison. Focusers aside, the mount alone would decide it for me.

    try veil nebula

Good question about what to do during moonlit nights. I'd usually recommend an open star-cluster, but there aren't any available until Cygnus rises later on. There's always ngc188 (<- map), but it's difficult to track and guide; during my last attempt, I spent more time adjusting the guiding than I did imaging.

Here (south-east Spain) It's light before the veil is high enough. Not sure where you are or what focal length you have but m57 is around 33º  and rising at midnight. Then there's m13 and m92. All bright enough to consider.

  3. Hi everyone

I'm not a fan of sitting hour upon hour by a screen and as this one was proving impossible to complete within my attention span, decided to unashamedly cheat. To avoid the  SGL removed word, I'll let the sequence of events speak for itself...

Thanks for looking and do post your own solutions in such circumstances.

  4. Hi everyone

This was already on the meridian around midnight. Until 2025, the galaxies aren't lending themselves to all-nighters any more. It's on my not-featureless-elliptical--galaxies list. Never sure how to do this one.  Anyone had a go recently? Thanks for looking.

    Which of the three options

    Hi

I believe you really do have to witness telescopes first hand to be able to decide properly. Fortunately, this is easy via your local astro club. Between them, they'll be only too pleased to show you first hand the alternatives you mention and more.

One big advantage you have is that you have prioritised the mount rather than the optics. Well done🙂

The only thing I was unsure of was of you can use a constant bias value rather feeding it a set of bias frames.

Or of course whatever offset your camera is set to. This is for the OP's 600d.
I recommend learning Siril manually to begin with. Perhaps better go with Sirilic when you have that mastered. Otherwise it can become a time consuming guessing game!

  7. This season's attempt over 6 hours. I should take no credit. All praise to EKOS' automation which allows the operator to fall asleep without penalty.

    Thanks for looking.

  8. Hi everyone

Even Leo is becoming low to the west in the early hours so this will probably be my last try here for a bit.
I can never get this quite right. Get the other two ok and the longer galaxy goes fuzzy. Anyone had a go at this recently? Experiences?
    Thanks for looking.

    multiple sessions

Rather than having to make four independent stacks, perhaps easier/quicker...

    Siril:

Pre process each night to obtain a pp_  file for each frame.
    Then it's...
    Conversion tab -> +
Add each pp_ file from all nights -> give it a name -> convert [1]
Register -Plot (remove the failed frames) -> Stack

    That's it.

I'd recommend learning Siril manually to begin with. Perhaps move to Sirilic when you understand what the Siril modules are doing.

    Cheers and HTH

[1] on Linux file systems we use symlinks to the files. Don't know if you can do that with ntfs.

    a dew shield

    Hi
I wonder about those. The 130pds has -at least- a 500mm dew shield already. It maybe the climate here, but I've never had dew on any Newtonian. 1º or 2º. Refractors, yes.
    Just curious.
    Cheers
