Need to get me a cardboard box, those electric dohickeys like star adventurer and 1 min. exposures somehow aren't working out as well for me. 🤣
those sony cameras are super sensitive, big pixels....I wonder how good the new one will be ....Surprising only a few frames...it shows less noise with three short stacked frames than one long one.....still difficult to process

Time very well spent Jonas... If you are going to do an image of one of the most photographed objects in Northern skies then do it just like this. It is a very special image Jonas you have made that AG12 of yours sing. Its been said many times here but really has to be the best M31 image I've seen.... pure class!

My pier was made from a 12inch diameter off cut of air conditioning ducting filled with concrete sitting on a 1m cube of concrete foundation. I used that for a while by it self then built the observatory around it. I did find that it warmed up during the day then radiated heat right in front of the optics at the night, simply fixed with insulation.... its been in the ground for about 15 years still going strong. If i was to make another I would do it exactly the same way.

sad sad news, what an inspiration.......RIP Sir Patrick

an amazing shot Olly the first thing that strikes me is the amount of stars....then you look at the scale its massive!!
-
Did catch me out today though... it throws a wobbly if you dont have a background layer...
ah yes it does...the action will only work on a flattened image....forgot to mention that...thanks peter

glad someone likes it....no probs!

I really wanted to get to kelling this year. Ive never been......but i cant drive at the moment.....im recovering from a broken hand....boo!
yes should work fine.....you will need to apply it to the frames before RGB combineFight you for it TonyWould it also help with r-g-b filtered images if the stars were of varying size?

So how does one use this. Is it simply copied into CS3 PS Plug in folder.?
Ron.
no problem ron.....copy it into the photoshop actions folder found in, program files/adobe/adobe photoshop cs/presets/photoshop actions. then open photoshop and click on the action drop down menu in the actions window and click on my action...open an image a press play....
-
anyone who tries it if they can let me know their experiences.....it will give me an idea of how reliable it is
ive made one with a standard curve and star colour booster not sure if any of you want to try them too?
-
Thanks again Peter. I'm sure I can find some bloated stars to try it on.
Mike
its good for rich starfields too....something like the veil, it helps to suppress the stars allowing the nebula to show up.
-
Ive written a new action for reducing star bloating.....thought it might be useful to some of you who arent sure how to do it....
it will also help with matching star sizes in narrow band shots. ive kept it subtle so if you need more reduction just run it through it again!
just drop it into your actions folder in photoshop to activate it you might need to select it in the action dropdown menu
let me know how you get on with it
enjoy
