IC1318 - Gamma Cygni (Sadr)
MartinFransson replied to Backyard Space Dude's topic in Imaging - Deep Sky
You´ve got some great detail in there and the colours look right to me! O3 is a pain in the... if you don´t have enough data I often find myself collecting as much O3 as the Ha and S2 combined and still feel it´s way to noisy. -
What type of aberration is this?
MartinFransson replied to MartinFransson's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
Running some test now with 5mm less spacing than what TS states is correct. Just a few test shots but so far it looks better! -
That´s very interesting! I don´t know if I´m brave enough to try it but I will be sure to look into that some more!

OK, I haven´t had a chance to do much RGB imaging with this scope yet. But I will look into that. I might reduce the spacing by quite a lot just to see the effect it has... -
I´m still working on sorting out possible tilt and other issues with my TS Photoline 80 f/6 APO. I´ve experimented a bit with backfokus distance (from 122 to 125mm). Ackording to TS the flattener (TS 2" flattener, no reducer) is supposed to be at 123mm from the sensor. I don´t see much difference when altering the distance a few millimeters. However, I´m starting to wonder whether this is tilt, spacing or something else. The "flaring" of stars in the corners does not indicate wrong spacing, does it? Changing the focus in and out makes the stars a bit better but not perfect. What kind of aberration would cause this star shape? It is most obvious on the S2 data (which might not be 100% in focus). Also, never mind the slight trailing on the stars in the whole images, I was shooting almost at zenith so the tracking was a bit so so. Could it be that the TS flattener just is not better than this? Finally got started for the season and had a few nice nights in mid august. Still fighting some problems with spacing and/or tilt but I think it turned out all right anyway. I have two suspects and don´t quite know how to identify the culprit Either the TS 2" flattener is not that good or I have focuser tilt. I think. The search will continue. Rotating the camera 90 degrees gave deformed stars in the same corners as before rotating... so that might indicate what? The flattener since it rotated with the camera? Anyway, hope you like the image. IC1318, Gamma Cygni Nebula. Ha: 41*5 minutes O3: 86*5 minutes S2: 55*5 minutes ZWO 1600MM-Cool, TS Photoline 80mm f/6 APO. Thank you! I might just do that -
Filters - add or subtract spacing?
MartinFransson replied to MartinFransson's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
...and there I´m lost again just when I thought I had it down 🤣 -
Help me out here guys... let´s say I have a flattener that needs 123mm spacing and I solve that with spacers, filter wheel etc. Then I add my filters, for example a 3mm Astrodon filter. I understand that this affects the spacing by approximately 1mm. BUT... does the filter add 1mm spacing or does it require me to add an extra 1mm? Two alternatives here to reach 123mm back focus distance: 1. 122mm spacers + Astrodon filter 2. 124mm spacers + Astrodon filter Help appreciated 🤯

180 degree NLC panorama
MartinFransson replied to MartinFransson's topic in Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets
Thanks guys! It was a beautiful night! -
Not a lot of astrophoto going on this time of year but 2 days ago I got a magnificent display of NLC down by the lake close to where I live. I also managed to capture Neowise but it´s too small to be visible here This was only stitched in Lightroom so there are a few artifacts. Need to do it in a proper panorama program. Someday...

Hi Graham! Sorry for the late reply! Weather has made me forget about astrophoto for a while... I have the 105mm because I wanted to use it also for my 300 and 500mm tele lenses.
-
Thanks Göran! Don´t you know that we ALWAYS need more data?
-
Thank you Olly! Since I use the lens stopped down to f/4 it works very well.
-
Thanks Gina! Sorry for the late reply, been off the site for a while. I always use unity gain for all my work.

I have the Canon version and I use the ZWO lens adapter for Canon lenses. https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/new-eos-lens-adapter-for-efw

These are the solution to that https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p3286_TS-Optics-Microfocuser-for-your-camera-lens-up-to-135-mm-Diameter.html

It means I image at f/4, sometimes at f/2.8. I might have a less than perfect copy of the lens or something because I´ve seen people imaging at f/2. Here are a few photos of how I set up. One with the Samyang and one with how I mount together with the guide scope. But in that picture it´s the Canon 300/4L lens I use
-
I just don´t get sharp stars in the corners at f/2. Even at f/2.8 I get some elongated stars in the corners.

Well, I need a lot more data for this one! Anyway, here is a try at bicolour image of Simeis 147 - the Spaghetti Nebula. 67*5 minutes of 3nm Ha and 27*5 minutes of 3nm O3. Samyang 135/2.0 lens @f/4. ZWO ASI1600MM-Cool

I was thinking of posting my image of Simeis 147 after capturing some O3 yesterday. Then I saw your image and realised I need a LOT more data 🤯 That is some serious detail and depth! Great work!

Thanks Göran and sorry - I entered the wrong equipment info! It was the Samyang 135/2.0 lens, not the 24mm! -

I´ve seen that done and it looks awesome! Looking forward to you giving that a go -

@Allinthehead As you can see here, it is a structure visible in the O3 data. Below are the stretched versions of O3 and Ha (not final edits, though) O3 data: Ha data: -

Thank you Olly! Framing is important for me... being a landscape photographer by day it´s hard to avoid I started out with the right part of it, the plan was to capture the Rosette and the structures around it but I soon realised that I had to add a frame to the left and recompose a bit.
