  1. hi carl  i agree with your thoughts on the az4 i have had one for years , i see we have the same set up az4  and altair starwave 102 ed ,  have you used the alt /alt  setting circles ? i find they are surprisingly accurate  well maybe not the alt one, depends on how it was first put on ?  i use a wixey for the alt . with a mobile phone app i just transfer the cords to the mount and your there with a 32mm ep ,  no goto for me dont need one. and a 150p reflector its like a dob experience  john.

Hi Dobbie, all well thank you, yourself?  I'd forgotten you had the F7 ED, sounds like a plan for a meet up.. whats your thoughts on the comparison..  I'll be honest i had a 72mm ed altair scope a while back and it worried me at the time, how nice it was..  that was fpl 51 (or equivelent) i think... so i suspect that the fpl53 is a great scope..

hi yes i am fine thank you . the altair is a great scope but  i dont think there was a big difference between the f/11 apart from the focal length the view was very similar,  the f/7 is easier to handle apart from that i dont think you would be gaining much selling the f/11 to get the f/7  so maybe get another frac with a bigger aperture , but your more than welcome to meet up and try mine regards john.

Thanks for that warm welcome everyone, much appreciated.

I've taken to heart the advice in an article on this forum and have no intention of rushing in and buying any equipment at this stage. At the moment I have everything I need, my laptop with  "stellarium" saved as a favourite, a couple of books and most important of all a warm coat!

Thanks for the suggestion about collimating my bins, I had read about that possibility but as I have had the same double image issue with different pairs over the years I think the problem lies with my eyes.  In any event is it really possible to get a steady image through bins when viewing objects so far away?  Are those little hand held monoculars any good?

Finally, I live a few miles south of Pontefract and have found that there's a good looking club (WYAS) only about 7 miles from home. I will get along there at some stage. Are any members on this forum I wonder?

Once again, many thanks for the warm welcome folks.

    Dave

  5. wow.. they very good paul , i wont have chance to use mine for another week as i am down in the south of France, which is why i am pondering to much on  gear.. i came down on the train so only have my binos with me. the focuser is the skywatcher ds which rotates 360' tbh its not much of a upgrade and i should have kept the old one. many thanks again for the photos and info.

It does look a great fit for the Ayo. I'm nervous about ordering the vixen for my Ercole with the Vixen hole being 45mm and the Ercole flange being 60mm.

I know there's an adaptor which I've asked FLO about, and others have suggested that it isn't needed, but if I can confirm that the m10 bolt rises up above the 45mm hole I'd feel less nervous about being able to connect the mount to the tripod.

I really should get a lathe at some point, that would be great for situations like this!

thats the amount it comes above the level , which is enough to hold a eq5 extension so should be good for the ercole.
