My first post on this forum . Coincidentally my first scope arrived yesterday and it is the same as yours . I am completely new to stargazing though, have never looked at sky with anything I own except my eyes . Still going through the basics of it now . Hoping I can find sequence of baby steps I need to take to be able to see intersting things in this ever expanding universe .

Any ideas where to start ...

It doesn't close, AFAIK but any large green space could be a bit dodgy after dark and on ones own. I did plan to go to the flagpole to do some imaging as it's walking distance for me. However, it's still problematic for me to even carry stuff down the stairs. It's probably better to go with someone after dark. I used to do a bit of longboarding there on the pathways, down the slopes :)

    Here's a YT video:

I worked in Ruchill hospital for about 30 years. Although the area has improved slightly since then it still can be a bit wild at night. I do not think it would be safe for a single person at night.

  3. A good start with the new scope Richard. I had the same problem when the council put in LED lights. I did manage to persuade them to put on shielding as the new light was about 3 feet higher than the old one and was lighting up 2 of my bedrooms. This made a big difference, but I was also lucky in that the light is to the front of the house and I can use the building to shade it out.
