  1. It would be a well made structure to cope with that acceleration. Approx 10g for 10 ten minutes (if my maths are right - doubtful), and as said above, how do you slow down enough to do anything useful when you get there.
  2. I'm a long time off the forum and a few pages behind with this thread, but thank you all again for Thursday night. As an aside, was the presentation controlled by a smartphone app?
  3. Well done guys getting the society set up! I WILL make some observing/pub sessions! I wish I could have got to some of the setup meetings as well. Do you have a Web site yet? How do people join?
  4. Great question that is well well answered. Brief and to the point.
  5. Does it have something to do with tidal locking resulting in the far side of the moon always being in the line of fire, so to speak. Therefore erasing any lava lakes that solidified on that side? albeit over a verly long time period?
  6. The moon is my focus for tonight. A quick grainy pic:
  7. Success! Here is a JPEG of the original, and a version after I twiddled some things in GIMP. (Which has made it bad!) I have yet to learn processing as you can see.
  8. Sorry for the delay. I will look for that when I get home. Thank You.
  9. What is the best way to post a 70mb image? Thank you.
  10. Here is what I am doing, in trying to create a widefield image: Stack subs, flats and darks in DSS. Save Alter levels in DSS. Save After this point, if I try to open up the image in GIMP for further processing, it has reverted back to the unprocessed original. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
  11. Where is the shop Sam? I had a look for it a while back while passing through Birstall but couldn't find it.
  12. I have one of these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/panel-mounted-speed-regulator-module-30310 I also have on order a voltage readout to wire 'in line' so I can monitor it as it drops. I don't know how quickly this will happen. Trial and error here. Wish I had seen those earlier, I could have saved a tenner! The motor should run around 5-6v to get the right rpm, but in reality will be higher to overcome the friction losses through the gears. I'm not sure how long the battery will last, but I am planning on using the whacking great battery from my Shogun!
  13. My basic idea is a motor driven gearbox. Geared down from around 1rpm at the motor to 0.00069rpm at the arm (15 deg/hour). I'm starting to gather a pile of parts to try and build it. I will make it so it can be mounted to my Heritage 130P dob base. The two hurdles I haven't thought of a solution for yet are polar alignment and and a method to reset the arm once the imaging is over.
