  1. Damo,

A horse for every course and some of them have even been doing some jumps, but were not so good on the landing. At least the 12mm has been repaired by my mate, it's that good even I can't tell it from the original inner sleeve, lord knows how much it would have cost from TV, it cost me 5 quid and a beer, so 5.50. Good deal in my books.

    Alan

  2. Well I have nothing to do at the moment so why not, everybody else seems to have posted on this thread, I feel left out ( and should be).

On loan or not yet collected are 5mm Radian, 16mm Nagler, 14mm XW, 6mm Ethos and 18mm Kasai.

The 6mm Delos is not mine, it is just that is where the one that died slept, I still remember.

There must be a name for this illness. I need another case now . BTW the black cases are Geoptik, as good as Peli half the price.

  3. Well I have never seen the books before so that new for me. I think Trazor makes a good point, Dark Skies, I think there is a greater chance of wanting to see what's there if live in a rural area with dark skies when we are young. It is a long time since I have been to London but I guess many nights there the sky shows little more than 2nd-3rd magnitude stars. I was rather surprised watching the Sky at Night last year that there is a society in one of the major parks, that must be terrible with the sky glow, I take my hat off to them, I bet a power cut comes high on their wish list. 4. The two thread which have now been joined were started almost at the same time by pure accident, sorry for the doubling up whoever got there first. Some nice answers and a good few as a result of the Moon landings, I like the reply from Davo, Interested pretty much all my life aged 15. The small red plastic Refractor if it is with it's box and in good condition is the sort of thing that I could see showing up on the Antiques Road Show in 40 years time, with people wanting to pay good money for it. I also see Dixon got in on the act for a few older members, like myself. There were not so many places to get things from in those days, I remember Fullerscopes was there but they were for the well heeled. I know one thing the UK skies were darker then. Alan.

  5. I started an interest in astronomy probably like many others.

I was 17 years old and I picked up a little book which my late Brother had bought, The Observers Book of Astronomy. I read it 3 times and started to check out the night skies with it. He then bought a very small 30mm refractor with a 10-30 zoom from Dixons, as soon a s I saw the crescent of Venus I was hooked. I then moved up to a 3 inch refractor.

How and when did you start.

  6. Never been to Japan, one of the very few that I haven't been to out that way, along with N Korea.

No you really have a large set of rather rare and excellent eyepieces there, I'm turning a bit the colour of the writing on my eyepieces.

Hope some has a ethos at the Star Party, if that is what it is.

BTW I have Peli cases with my Camera stuff in, just got a Geoptik case from TS, almost as good half the price.

    Alan.

  7. Talk about getting the wrong end of the stick, sorry Astro baby, I thought Damo had made the case. Well it is one hell of a piece of work,, I think it is the best case i have seen.

We have just had a look spell of not very Bulgarian weather, lastnight was great though but minus 9 with a wind hurts.

BTW is your quote " the White zone" is it from Frank Zappa, or did he get it from somewhere else.

    Alan.

  8. I used Telescope House on two occasion from Bulgaria and sent items to a friends address. They were very careful to ensure I was who I claimed to be and they processed the two orders which were waiting for me in Hull when I flew in days later. They were very professional and helpful, Thank-you.

  9. Has England changed so much. My Mum used to take us to Sheerness for hols from Chatham about 40 years ago. I remember it being very dark then even in Sheerness more so down towards Garison Point. I was into Astronomy way back then, Memories!

    Alan.

  10. Chipboard is a good working medium, it just needs to sealed against damp, if it is kept dry it is fine for years. Most new houses now in the UK have chipboard floors trust me there is nothing special about. Many bath panels are made from MDF, it's only a variation on chip board.

Having said that I am looking to buy a 16 inch myself and I am not too please with chipboard being used in the base.

Alan, trying to talk himself into buying a Sky Watcher 16 goto Dob.
