  1. "First i had a canon eos m and i bought all the attachments to get it to connect to the eye piece. I found that when i connected and used autofocus I saw a great picture in the cameras screen and then it went out of focus. I now think in hindsight I  needed to use manual focus,"

A DSLR is usually attached to the scope's focuser without the camera lens.

The scope then becomes the lens, a very long focal length one.

You can attach with a lens, but as you said, with manual auto focus you saw the autofocus struggling.

If the Bresser camera's small sensor is giving you a moon view "zoomed in", you need a larger sensor, such as the Canon has.

But the Bresser making video files is better for tiny objects such as the planets.

  2. "My question is can I manually use it, is it possible to fix or should I stay clear of it."

    Manually will be cumbersome.

If it's the usual five capacitors that age and can blow, yes it can be fixed.

If you don't have the skills to fix it (google for "Meade Classic LX200 Capacitor replacement") then stay clear.

But then I'm the guy selling the £900 one on the mainland........... 😆

  3. 1. As Hals suggests, for Planetary you want to "magnify" the tiny dot that is the planet, so the FR is counter-productive.

    2. At the moment the camera is too far away from the mirror, and the eyepiece is too close, because of the helical focuser

The focuser should go before the Flip Mirror.

Because if the focuser is after, if you have to focus the camera, the eyepiece will go out of focus.

Before the Flip Mirror, both camera and eyepiece remain in sync.

In your case you have an electronic focuser on the OTA, so the helical focuser is probably meant for the eyepiece port.

    3. As with an Off Axis Guider, the distances from the centre of the mirror to the eyepiece and to the camera sensor must be setup to be the same, for both to be in focus at the same time.

Once that is set up, any adjustment to the focuser before the Flip Mirror will refocus the camera and the eyepiece.

  4. SkySafari is a wifi alternative to the handset, so will require the Dec motor to be working.

While the Meade fork mounts have been around for over 30 years, and are supported by Meade.

They have regularly replaced their EQ mounts with another model, and eventually spare parts run out.

As you're California based I would expect you would get more chances of getting used spares and advice in the USA.

Try the Meade section of the US based Cloudy Nights forum.

  5. Might be Bayer pattern incorrectly processed.

Might even be a pattern from your PC screen.

So if you want to fault find or make quality assessments don't post images of the PC screen taken with your phone.

Post actual images as Chris requested.

    And what your equipment is.

  6. I've seen the aurora before in Norway, so I dismissed the unusual radial pattern rather than "curtains" as high clouds or plane trails.

But so many of the posted images are similar to mine, perhaps it's the angle from viewing at a "low" Latitude:

  7. M48 screwed connections ?

55mm from the Corrector to the sensor ?

SW say "28mm image height", which may mean the full vignetted circle.

Even so you'd think your 11mm x 11mm sensor would be in a good part of the circle.

  8. Hi Miguel

Have you tried focusing while video imaging with the "Omegon AstroPhotoCapture" software that comes with the camera ?

Following the "Finding Focus" instructions in the Instruction Manual ?

This gives you a "LiveView" image, which makes focusing much easier than waiting for individual frames to download.

Or with SharpCap, again following the instructions in the manual.
