Just watched Sky at Night Pete Lawrence was talking about viewing Mercury during the day.
You do a 1 star alignment on the sun then goto Mercury.
Now the question is can you do a 1 star alignment on the sun with a EQ5 if so how please.

Yes I saw a meteor as I was lining up a double star in Hercules just before a green curtain went through the eyepiece, I looked up and shouted my wife and son out then rang my Mother and Brother so we could all see the spectacular view.

As vlaiv says I have the EQ5 goto they have little rubber inserts that the bolts press on the shafts to hold them in place, maybe its them.

With the charts I use for the 4" I don't mark any secondary below 10.0 as I just can't see them
There's still plenty to go at though.
Same here now and again under really great skies I've caught glimpses but I usually chose secondary no more than mag 9. Even then the skies have to be great especially with a primary that is really bright.

The DEC cable on my EQ-5 mount is a pain. When the mount is doing a meridian flip I always keep an eye on it to make sure it does not get snagged. A longer more flexible cable or a curly cable would be more satisfactory.
I have never had a problem before just this last few weeks I have a short one which goes from the control box to the RA then a longer lead 24" goes from the Dec on the mount to the Dec axis where the scope is, that's the one keeps snagging.
I have the scope horizontal when I plug them in so I don't know why it does it.
Hopefully with this right angled one it won't do it.
I have had to tape the cable up in three places one being just behind the plug.

The dec cable should be routed above the RA axis. You have it underneath.

It is a Skywatcher V3 handset and a Celestron 120 xlt I have got a solar filter for it which I will use. I could use my Vixen 102 or the Tal 100rs and my Herschel wedge but like you said there is a big difference in focal length.
If I level the mount and point North using a compass I wont be far off polar aligned its the next bit I can centre the Sun but I am not doing a 1 star alignment so I dont know if the mount would no where it is to slew to Mercury.
This is supposed to be on the 4th of June and Jupiter will be close as well.
