  1. Starting to realise that is the case. Just watched this video by curtisca17 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8cXY4mUBng so will look into EEVA possibilities some more. Thanks
  2. Hi Lee, Thanks for your response and good to have it confirmed about the ed80. I have been looking at a SW EQM-35 or maybe HEQ-5 but I am in no rush as I have never done any photography before. I bought the ASI120 to try out planetary so I will stick to that with the AZ-GTi for now. I have an old ext70 with a missing hand controller that I am going to de-fork, so I might mount that on the AZ in EQ mode just to play around with and try my hand at AP. I really like your rig, the tripod really does make it look much sturdier alright. Thanks again. John
  3. Not holding my breath but...
  4. Hi, I use a SW ed80 and Bresser Mak 127 with my AZ-GTi in Alt-Az mode (although I have updated it to AZ/EQ dual mode). Both scopes work fine with the mount in Alt-Az but I am wondering if they are too much for the mount in EQ with an ASI120 camera for unguided AP? I tested the lighter ed80 in EQ mode indoors and I just didn’t like the feel of it. With the counterweight it is over 5kg, although I read somewhere that the CW doesn’t count when calculating the load. But I think I should realistically be looking for a mount with a higher load capacity with a sturdier tripod? Grateful for all advice. Thanks John
  5. Possibly down to the iOS version. I don't have an iPhone to compare with my iPad but I have been using an up to date Android phone with the AZ-Gti and the initial alignment, mostly three-star, is normally reasonably accurate. But the last time I was out I used an older Android phone which has not been updated in a while and used Capella as the first star. The mount slewed way past Capella, nearer to Jupiter in fact.
  6. It started raining in the west of Ireland on 2 January 1982, the day I got here, and it hasn't stopped since. Off to bed for another early night while the Moon struggles to break through.

    Hello

Hi all, I have already found a wealth of information from lurking about SGL so I thought I would post and say hello. Of particular interest has been the AZ-Gti owners topic and the Dob EQ platform for dummies thread. I have been into astronomy for a few years but mostly living in apartments with no access to a garden, so it was difficult to get any privacy, and avoiding the classic “Is that a telescope?” question was always challenging. 😀 I have a back garden now and an Orion XT8, SW ed80 APO and Bresser Mak 127. Still have the Meade etx70 from my apartment days but somewhere along the way I mislaid the handset, so I am thinking of de-forking it and getting some rings to mount it on the AZ-Gti. Looking forward to SGL membership. John
