  1. With Lunt LS50THa and asi120mm mini tilt adapter still getting rings with the tilt adapter maxed out see pics. Tried rotating the camera. I literally have to put mega angle on it by hand to finally get rid of the rings. Then only half the sensor is usable because of the extreme angle. Id thought a small bit of tilt would do the job. I'm I looking at getting a different camera here or has someone with this set up solved it?
  2. Hmm think I'd like to keep the polar scope on cover on if possible.
  3. Wee question I'm looking to update the alt bolts on my heq5 mount. I'm unsure if there enough space for the altitude bolt by the polar scope lens end? see pics. Plenty space for the other one. Has anyone else upgraded these and is there adequate space? Im in Glasgow so 55°. Also there must be cheaper alternatives on eBay? It's only a bit of threaded bar with a plastic knob.
  4. I have a similar issue with asi120mm and Lunt LS50THa. Got a tilt adapter on the way. As a temporary fix a slotted a tooth pick between camera and eyepiece and rings went away.
  5. 👍 that's the kind of cheapo solution I was thinking about. Thanks
  6. I have an idea of what I'm going to make to keep the sun off the lappy screen when solar imaging but id be interested to see what other people are using. Iv seem some on Amazon £40ish. Not going to spend much at all.... will get a bit blue peter and knock something up.
  7. Belter of a sun spot group. 👍
  8. Great sun images. Are they double stacked?
  9. Processed them separately. Tbh I just followed the fantastic YouTube vid from woodland hills camera and telescope. Quite long but learned alot from it.
  10. Taken wih Lunt LS50THa and ASI 120mm mini, awfull newton rings the first couple of tries so have a tilt adapter on the way. Toothpick came in handy for now to wedge down the side the eyepiece holder to get some camera tilt.🤬 Think i need to order a decent Higher frame rate camera.... I'm happy to hear which cameras your having success with..

Stupid me I must have downloaded the wrong file. Sorted now. Thanks anyway.

    IMPPG

Sorry not a solar pic but tried downloading IMPPG it's asking which program I want to use to extract everything to set it up?? What should I be using? Any ideas?
  13. Hi Luke, yes been a bit of a journey since I last did solar imaging with a PST and mark 1 first generation QHY5 mono cam. Simply can't get a driver online for it now. Spent 2-3 hours looking. So I'd recently sold my C9.25 so thought I'd invest the money in a Lunt LS50THa solar scope. But of a. Upgrade from the PST. Used my guiding camera asi120mm mini. Don't think it's too well suited to the Lunt. In terms of interference rings. But sun fits the chip perfect. So will look to invest in another camera. I'll need to in eat in a tilt adapter also. Tried afew blue peter methods to get some angle on the chip for now.😬 Sharpcap etc has fair come along. Typical cloud sky all clear everywhere apart from where you don't want it to be. !!
  14. Only recently got back into solar imaging after an 8-9 year gap. Have a complete new set up now. First image not great and was getting horrid newtons rings. Have afew things to try to get rid of them. But have to start somewhere to get back into it. Amazed how improved the capture and stacking software has become since.
  15. Thanks Hughsie, I. Just noticed the front lens part of the Asi 120mm screws off. Will try it next sunshine we get but are the internal reflections coming from the Lunt optical train or does the camera lens window also add newtons rings? It would be quickly swapped into the Lunt eyepiece so little chance of dust. Anyone tried this?
  16. Hi Elp, yes filters in the B600 diagonal.
  17. Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong section. Iv just got back into solar imaging with a Lunt LS50THa and Asi 120mm mini, now I never used to get newton Rings with my old pst. What gives the most sucessfull end result flats or a tilt adapter? I'm assuming not having them to start with is the way to go. Now where in my lint pic would the tilt adapter fit in as the back focus etc is critical. Also what's is the best method of taking solar flats? I see sharpcap has a flats sections but it's paid for. Has anyone used this and is it worth purchasing. ?
  18. Hello I'm not really a visual astronomer. But iv recently taken hold of a Lunt LS50THa so would like do some visual with this scope. Can anyone recommend decent eyepieces. Iv got basic plossol ones. Thanks.
  19. Hello It's been many years since iv used sharpcap and recently downloaded the updated version. Afew differences... In the drop down menu mono 8 and mono 16 is this just 8 bit and 16 bit images? Also when using mono 16 it saves as a SER file. My comp won't open this file. What prog do I need to open this. Also what's the difference between them. Thanks
  20. Any ideas will the asi120mm mini slide into the eyepiece all the way down??
  21. On the field of view calculator the Asi120mm looks like it fills up the sensor snug. Would there be any issues achieving focus with this camera? Id bought it for imaging as I previously owned a pst and wanted something bigger and I had a 2nd hand quark that was very disappointing, unsure if it was faulty. Unfortunately a Lunt 60 is way out my price range.
  22. Hello, iv recently taken ownership of a new Lunt LS50THa solar scope, calling all owners can you show me your imaging set up, what camera do you find suits this scope best for imaging. Iv started looking at at few field of view calculators. Full disc close up.imaging would make things easier I guess? Thanks
  23. Which cam is the solar pic taken with? I'm.assuming that's double stacked?
  24. It was my understanding mono gives higher resolution for imaging. Does the increased frame rate counteract this when using modern colour cameras then. I haven't owned a planetary cam for a good while maybe the technology has come on some.?
