  1. Hello all As always many thanks for responding. Just to be clear I passed on it, as I had already bought one, I believe it is still available. As always many thanks for your assistance Trevor
  2. Hello's Dave As always thanks for responding. That sounds a good idea. I was wondering if they had a rubber/wider foot on the tripod would that dampen down any vibration more or less ,as I was thinking it would be dissipating vibration over a greater surface area! As always many thanks for your assistance. PS I did find a brand new Tal 100r in its original box,l. It was not complete as it was missing eyepieces, moon filter diagonal and finder, it did have the tripod, mount and rings. Trevor
  3. Hello All As always thanks for any advice you can give Thinking ahead to the future when the telescope arrives from Scotland. If I want to use the telescope on my concrete patio, am I in danger of damaging the wooden tripod's spiked feet. If the answer is no what am I missing and if yes is there a solution? As always many thanks. Trevor
  4. Hello Wookie As always many thanks for responding. When mine arrives I will see if I can match your magnification on a a clear, still night. The sketch looks good to me. As always many thanks for your assistance . Trevor
  5. Hi Wookie As always many thanks for responding. If you find it, I wouldn't mind seeing it, what make of eyepiece was the 6mm, and have you ever used a camera or mobile phone to take photos? As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  6. Hello Dave As always many thanks for responding That for the Tal M sounds a good magnification , and gives a clue to the quality of the mirror, will be interesting to see if the Tal 100r can match the RS for maximum magnification. As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  7. Hello Wookie As always thanks for responding. At x333 was the view of still sharp with good contrast? As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  8. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. I hadn't thought about the distance making the magnification greater, so thanks for that. I would be interested to know how far you have tried pushing the magnification on the RS, and at what point the views lost contrast and sharpness on one of of those rare very clear nights with low atmosphere turbulence? The reason for the question is I have seen some threads where individuals are talking up to 300x which is a lot more then I thought possible. As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  9. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. Sorry for the delay, the one you show on the well known auction site, is the one I bought. As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  10. Hello Dave As always many thanks for responding. I did start to pen a response to you a little time ago about attaching a diagonal to the Tal Barlow, but didn't because it looked like it would not have enough inward travel, but will give it a go. Will invest in a laser if need be, and make a paper mask to cover the primary. Here's hoping that it gets to me from Scotland in the next month or so without any problems. As an avid reader of threads, it looks like the Tal 100r had an aluminium OTA where the RS was steel, how this effects the positioning and sealling of baffles I am unsure. As always many thanks for your assistance Trevor
  11. Hello Mark As always many thanks for responding. I will give that ago, and let you know how I get on. As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  12. Hello Dave As always many thanks for responding. I can now start to understand the issue. Looking at the diagonal main body it does look slightly shorter on one side, which if unique would allow it to go further in, am I correct in this? The other thought is about diagonal construction, would it be possible to remove the chamfered part and place it on another diagonal? And finally have you any thoughts about collimating a Tal refractor, is it necessary, would I still use the Cheshire, and how do you go about it? As always thanks for your assistance. Regards Trevor
  13. Hello Doug As always thanks for responding That does help me understand the problems I will face. In all good conscience I can't see me bringing my self to cut the back off. I can see that it would work, it will be interesting to see if my Tal 3x Barlow comes into focus. What is surprising is that on other threads people have mentioned using non Tal Barlow's successfully, will have a word with other astronomy club members to see if I can borrow one to try. I would also like to know if you have ever collimated the scope either by shimming the main objective or adjusting the mirror on the diagonal, or as other threads mention both? As always many thanks for your assistance. Trevor
  14. Well maybe time to end this thread, as no one appears to have found a solution, I will have a go myself, will post again one way or the other. Trevor
  15. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. Looks like a very good setup, have you a photo of the original focuser you could share with me? As always many thanks. Trevor
  16. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. So you don't use it for astronomy any more, what did you do with the original focuser, and you still use the original tripod. And lastly did you have any light issues around the original baffles? As always many thanks Trevor
  17. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. I have contacted the individual and asked various questions, so will have to see if they respond. As always many thanks. Trevor
  18. Hello Dave I have just bought a Tal 100r, I am enquiring if you know if other diagonals than the original Tal supplied can be used. The other issue being the use of non Tal Barlow lenses with the original diagonal, have you any information on this. I am interested in how you have progressed with the change, and if it has been successfull. I have been directed to this thread by another member, and would like to know why you have made the change? Many thanks Trevor
  19. Hi I have seen a thread on The Tal 100r that states that the Tal diagonal can't be changed for another due to it being chamfered which others aren't. I would like to know if any one has seen or overcome this issue. As always many thanks.
  20. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. Yes I have seen this one , it has been around for a while, along with another that I did offer on, that was not excepted. Will try the 3x Tal Barlow first before deciding on a 2x. I have seen a thread on The Tal 100r that states that the Tal diagonal can't be changed for another due to it being chamfered which others aren't. I would like to know if any one has seen or overcome this issue. As always many thanks. Trevor
  21. Hello Dave Still tempted by a Tal 2m slightly worried about its weight, have you ever owned or used one? As always thank you Trevor
  22. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. No I just plan to use the Tal 100r for astronomy, I have the Polarex or Swift's for terrestrial viewing. A camera would be something I would think about if /when I get a powered mount. Thanks for the review of the Tal M , maybe a future buy 😉 With the in focus issue what sort of Barlow would be suitable, a standard or a shorty, or I can see if the Tal 3xbarlow would work, would also like to get a 2x that I could use on both Tal"s. As always thank you. Trevor
  23. Photos of latest purchase as promised bellow, and the other issue the part broken locking screw on the weight
  24. Hello Dave As always thanks for responding. That extention looks like a very viable solution. As I am on track to being a TAL collector what was your view of the TAL M as they appear to come up quite often? Changing the subject put the swift binoculars on my UniLoc tripod, resulting in them being rock steady and very clear, knowing me will end up with some 80mm binoculars when funds allow. Passed on some Hilkinson 15x80s in very good condition that went for £46 yesterday on a well known auction website, well you cant have everything, or can you!!! As always thank you Trevor
  25. Hello Dave As always thank you for responding. I would be interested if the Tal 100r did come in one of those heavyweight plywood boxes or just a packing crate like the Tal-1, will have to talk to the chap I bought it from. As the focuser is rack and pinion my thought is that the R would need a longer rack to then give it greater movement than the 30mm of 40mm it presently has as extending the existing spacer would still only give the same amount of travel, does that sound right? As always thank you. Trevor
