For this second attempt at the Eagle Nebula, I was more strict on the selection criteria of the individual sub-frames to be aligned and stacked. During the processing stage in Maxim, I also chose a lower (50%) bias for the luminance frames, bringing out more of details captured with the Ha filter. 70x50seconds x LRGB = 3.8 hours exposure combined -

My first attempt at Hydrogen Alpha (Ha) imaging, along with M16, the Eagle Nebula. This small portion of the much larger Heart Nebula highlights the capabilities of the SX Superstar when it comes to narrow-band imaging on an Alt/Az mount. The filter used was the Astrodon 3nm 1.25", which unfortunately is not parfocal with my Baader LRGB filters, making focusing a bit more challenging. 70x50seconds x L Ha G B = 3.8 hours exposure combined -

Quite noisy and not particularly detailed, partly due no doubt to it being relatively low above the horizon in a part of the sky affected by the sky-glow of a nearby town. In an case, it is an improvement over my un-modded DSLR attmepts. Hopefully I'll get the chance to try again later in the year as it rises higher. 30x40seconds x LRGB = 1.3 hours exposure combined -

From the album: SX Superstar Mono - Solar tests
My latest attempt at stacking solar images. Just cant get the hang of it. They always endup worse than the original singal shots... -

Sames as the raw image, just with some processing in PS CS5, mainly convert to RGB, apply an orange photo filter, unsharp mask sharpening. -

Just one of many shots captured with MaximDL. First exported as a tiff then saved as a jpg, but no other processing. -

Damn, this is ugly... Really need to try and revisit M33 at some stage. I did a quick test with my new SX Superstar guider / planetary imager the other night, but there was quite a haze and the mount didnt like this part of the sky, tracking was horrible. Of course now there's a full moon, if and when there's a break in the clouds, so maybe next year??? -

Probably my second favourite of the set after M27. A smooth gradient to the galaxy, which looks even better in the original TIFF exported from Maxim. Extra data would certainly help bring out more detail. Definitely one to revisit after I move to Eq mountings instead of Alt/Az... 40x30sec = 20 mins total LRGB (RGB binned @ 2x2) L=10x30sec R=10x30sec G=10x30sec B=10x30sec Orion F/7 102mm Premium refractor Moonlight focuser iOptron Minitower Alt/Az mount LRGB Baader 1.25" filters Xagyl Communications 5 Position Superslim USB Filter Wheel Maxim DL PS CS5 -

After a frantic email exchange with iOptron support, it became apparent that my Minitiower mount wasnt going to be available for the transit. So after blowing off the dust from my ancient EQ1 equivalent, fixing up some very unstable mating for the vixen dovetail, as I more or less ready to snap a few shots before the clouds rolled in.

I'm not very familiar with planetary imaging, and I would usually use my Televue powermates for this type of work with a DLSR. I dont have the necessary adapters to mount the filter wheel or camera on to these just yet however (on order though). So this is at prime focus just as with the other shots, although the crop is a little tighter. Exposure took a little getting used to, but basically both jupiter and venus are bright enough to use almost the faster shutter speed available on this camera (0.001sec) and still obtain some level of detail.
