Hi
has anyone used the Sky-Watcher SynScan V5 Hand Controller for operating the AZi GTI mount as opposed to using their phone or tablet and if so is it better/ more user friendly - any advantage over the phone based app??

The tripod 3/8 bolt looks a bit odd.
If the AzGTi is pre-fitted to the extension first , then the tripod 3/8 pass thru should be done up tight. Last the bolt under the tray.
You can always add the AZGTI last as the 3 bolts can be accessed at any time.
Was that the explanation you sought?
That’s explained it cheers mate 👍🏼

Sorry that wasn’t my question apologies I’m asking if the fitting was correct in adding the top bolt separately then connecting to the extension? Seems a strange was to to do it?

The startravel is F/5 so faster is it not ?
also quick question..Is an Asiair device compatible with the AzI GTI for EAA ? Or is it not needed at all ?

Yes I bought one with the mount head ready for the steel tripod
-
I’ve opted for the AZI GTI mount and bought it separately from the stick tripod so I can use it with a steel tripod instead

I’m also considering a Sky-Watcher EQ3 PRO Go-To Astronomy Mount & Tripod or the SW azi GTI mount and tripod - which would be the better buy - can’t go for anything else tbh due to budget

Thanks folks

I’m considering a Startravel 102 for EEA although the Evo 102 has been recommended- which would be the better option on the azi GTI

Ok enough I’m leaving this ridiculous forum - the end absolutely pathetic

Said it a lot more politely than I would

Exactly, hence my comment, wait till you have some good videos with content well worth watching, before you start to advertise yourself. If you promote yourself too soon, as has been done here, then the negative comments start to come in, and you are on the back foot right away, and putting yourself under pressure to produce more, and that’s not what you want….I think the OP jumped the gun a bit saying that there was good stuff to come, now it needs to come very very quickly….
Just doing a mate favour pal - chill out

The point wasn't missed - the post describes it as ' an invaluable resource for beginners and the more experienced' yet there's nothing there. It may become one in time, but there's absolutely no content of interest or value there at the moment.
Well I apologise for wasting your time

It’s ok Jim I’ll step in 👍🏼 I think the point is that it was a post to be helpful perhaps however the point has been missed as perhaps not the arena for it maybe ? Robert is a local legend in our neck of the woods and is a much respected astronomer who has decided to launch an on line resource which hopefully as time goes on will be a good watch for enthusiasts, I for one learnt everything I know locally from Robert over the last 10 years or so and he’s extremely knowledgable.

Try the weighting down. But experience tells me just looking at the tripod it's insufficient, you'll eventually understand through experience what a good tripod looks like.
Will it hold your setup, yes. But note you're using a medium sized scope with a not short focal length near the limit of the weight of the mount, all factors which are a negative to causing dampening issues, using a tripod such as the one you're suggesting will likely exasperate the issue even at the slightest suggestion of a breeze, never mind when trying to set focus or something.
EAA and AP are essentially the same thing, you're taking images even though the exposures are shorter in EAA, so you still need a stable tripod+mount, most targets aren't as bright as you might think so need 5-10s+ exposures, any vibration or wind within that window will ruin said exposure.
This post says it all:
A lot of people skimp on a tripod, it's the most important piece in any setup.
I would say the mount is the most important but yea I agree stability is important- try it and see, you may find it’s ok for now

If you add some weight to the bottom of the tripod it will help to stabilise it. Providing it is not windy, I think it should be fine. Just keep it as low as you can.
As @Beardy30 says, try it and see.
😂 I think that answers that one 😂😂

Yea it’s for visual not AP - thank u 😊

Hi, yes the tripod would be fine for EAA as it’s the same essentially as visual with a cam so providing you don’t exceed approx 80% of its payload capacity you should be fine - I would try it and see how you go and you can always mod up the tripod later 👍🏼

Morning everyone
I understand the difference between the two mounts above in that the GTE doesn’t include the feeedom find option of the GTI, but looking at the Costs I’m thinking the GTE is more of a bargain- for example the GTI is approx £349 at FLO for the mount and tripod package alone but the GTE also includes the startravel 102. (A fairly decent achro frac for visual) is only £379- a difference of £30.
so I’m wondering how useful is the freedom find option and is it really something people find helpful? Be good to know before making the decision as I’m thinking the GTE package is more cost effective if I’m never likely to use freedom find.
thanks
☺️

Hi there, I would recommend the Stella 80mm for EAA it’s a beauty well made and great focal, cam wise you should be fine with the 224 certainly for now it will do the job fine it’s a proven camera which is well matched to the frac or a good newt.
