Thanks Jim,

Glad you finally managed to get some viewing time in last night.

Thats the best I can do with my 130mm scope. I was hoping for a clearer more detailed image, but every time I try, the above image is the best I can do.

I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a 200mm scope.

Regards

Neil

Neil, I did not like to say anything regarding that but yes I was showing it to my better half and did mention it was not as clear. Are you getting a sharp image through the eyepiece, if so, when you change over to your cam/camera, what are you seeing on your screen?

Jim,

The image throught the my 20mm eyepiece is much clearer than the camera.

It may be that the moon filter I used was low spec.

With the camera, it's a DSLR Cannon EOS 1000D, so I can zoom in once it's attached and it does come into focus. On the live view display, it looks ok.

I've tried lots of different ISO settings and exposure times, but can't seem to get as much detail and focus as with my 20mm eyepiece observing directly.

I also had trouble last night trying to get a good picture of Saturn other than a white blob, which is annoying as that kept me up until 0245.

Looking at the moon last night I would not have used a filter, actually very rare l do :) . I have to say that my OTA is only 80mm and the sharpness I seen took me aback hence my returning to it now and again. No photos taken last night but I understand where you are comming from with the camera. Neil, if you get a chance tonight maybe try it without the filter and see what happens :).

hi all last night i took a few pics a do not think you have a iso or time issue it looks more like a focusone, once your ready to start camera also needs time to cool down filters ect.take a pic and then have a look zoom in and check every thing is ok if not refocus i have a crawford focuser and it helps whislst get in focus ,the 90mm goto is the same, once best focus as been acheived in raw format then have a play it looks good the one ya did but i would think that 100d is cappable of some clear sharp pics trail and error

I Had another go tonight without the moon filter, focused again and again, it was worse than last night.

I'll live with last nights image.

Thanks for the advice.

Neil, this is a focusing problem rather than the camera settings. A question, when you focus with the camera can you go either side of the focus? Reason I ask, if I use my Canon with a diagonal I cannot focus but if I go straight without the diagonal I can get focus okay, just a thought. Another, do you have "Liveview" with your camera or is it just through the viewfinder?

Hi neil,

It does seem to be slightly out of focus but im also siding towards the camera settings, try reducing the shutter speed as im sure i can see a slight blur on the craters. As a secondry option you could try a tele-extender with the 20mm eyepiece or maybe a baader skyglow filter, it really makes the images crisper and also darkens the background. Is it the 130 Parabolic mirror version you have?
