Here's a happy combination.

Having fitted my EQ3 mount to an EG5 tripod with success, I have an EQ3 tripod without amount. I also have a wobbly little EQ1/2 type tripod and mount for my Lidl/Bresser.

At first it seemed that a hefty steel plug could fit between the base of the small mount and the tripod. But then I thought, why not just swap the legs over?

It was scarily simple, about 15 minutes work. Enlarge six holes to 8mm, turn up six thick delrin washers and replace the latitude locking screw with a shorter item and bingo! A portable but rigid mount for a 'grab and go' small scope:

It will please my wife. She got me the small scope for Christmas and was a bit crestfallen when I bout a 6" reflector. For me the smaller scope was what convinced me I wanted to really have a go at this.
