Lunar imaging over several nights?

As everyone know, there is only a small section of the moon where the light hits so that one can see clearly all the details on the surface.

Now, is it possible to, say i took pics of the moon yesterday. Can i today take a new set of pics, and combine them to get a larger "detailed" area? It might be issues with with the direction of light and so, but i don't know how much it would affect it.

i supose it would be tricky to get the balance of the images all the same, but i have definitely seen it done. on some of the large posters of the whole moon, shadows on the craters all over the moons surface are the give away.
