How does this work (2" t-adapter)

Recommended Posts

hello again

Im buying my skywatcher 150p-ds & eq5 pro goto tomorrow, and will be wanting to attatch my 5dmk2/600d to it, i know i need a t-ring & t-adapter but how the hell do they fit to the

dual speed focusser, the scope takes 1.25" eyepieces but the t-adapter is a 2", the dual speed focusser is a 1.25"/2 fitment

Sorry for all the dumb questions but were all very new to this, images of how this works would be grateful.

Many Thanks Andy

Ok here we go, snapped some pictures for you:

1 - the focuser as supplied to me.

2 - remove the eyepiece holder from the 2inch adapter.

3 - remove 2-inch adapter from focuser.

4 - attatch separately bought T-2 ring to DSLR.

5 - attatch 2-inch adapter to T-2 ring.

6 - the DSLR with both adaptors.

7 - the whole shebang fitted to the scope.

I can understand how this is confusing, I actually ended up with 2 (not one) redundant eyepiece projection adapters because I thought I needed one at first. I gave one of them away to my buddy Christoffer in the astronomy club who needed one so no harm done there :)

Hope this helps!

Thats helped a hell of alot, thankyou very much carl, just to pick your brains while your here, this it the t-adapter ive been recommended http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/flo-2-inch-t-mount-camera-adapter.html

am i right i saying this would sit deeper into the focuser as it looks deeper to the one on your images.

Thanks andy

That's and adapter and not a ring. The thing you just linked is most likely made redundant by this one:

post-26290-0-58893300-1355870169_thumb.j

However, the one you linked could help with focus distance, that has never been a problem for me in my current setup however.

What you need except camera and scope is this:

http://www.firstligh...rs/t-rings.html

Edit: And yes it would sit deeper in the focuser, but still you already got the one that came with the scope. Just make sure its secure with both screws.

Thankyou, just to clarify could you explain this to me, i had this in an email today from FLO regarding the t-ring and 2" t-adapter, from what im thinking of this email you attatch the t-ring to my dslr and then the t-adapter the the t-ring which give you a (pust into) fit into the focuser?? right/wrong lol or am i missing something, sorry for all the questions.

Exatly: DSLR --> T2ring --> 2inch T-mount adapter thing (either the one that comes with the scope, or the one from FLO) --> scope.

Like the email states, it gives you slightly better connection aslong as the focuser is pointing upwards the camera wont just "tip" out of the socket. And for 22£ I don't see why not.

However it's redundant if you take care to carefully fasten your camera.

This will be our first scope (myself & daughter of 8 years) shes obsessed this space and the planets, just a question, do i need to buy the t-adapter or does the 150p-ds come with one supplied?

many thanks

That's a cracking scope you've got coming, and yes, it comes with everything you need except the T-2 ring. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/t-rings.html Atleast if its the same kit as my 150PDS.

To clarify, this is the adaptor you need that comes delivered as part of the focuser setup:

THere is one last thing I can recommend, get this book from FLO: http://www.firstlightoptics.com/books/making-every-photon-count-steve-richards.html the book is a god-send for learning astrophotography.

Just to give you an example of what is doable with a tracking mount and a DSLR on a 150PDS, I did this recently:

2nd DSO M45

Now I'm eagely looking forward to seeing your pictures, and reading about your adventures with your new scope.

  • 1 year later...

I'm just about to buy the 150PDS OTA myself (I've already bought an HEQ5 Pro mount), and the Canon 1100D camera, and various accessories. Am I right in saying that I need the following products for attaching the camera to the scope:

FLO 2-inch T mount camera adapter (Canon EOS version):

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/flo-2-inch-t-mount-camera-adapter.html

T Rings (Canon EOS version):

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/t-rings.html

Thanks for the help
