Hi, Which is most suitable for use in a 90mm refractor:

Baader ND96 - 0.6, 0.9, 1.8 or 3.0 ?

I'd pick a variable polariser, it gives you the ability to adjust image brightness by rotating the filter.

What he said.............Deffo a "variable polariser" thats all I use now when observing the Moon

Yep Polariser gives you more flexibility to get it just how you want it. Useful to meet the needs of the ever changing phases of the moon

Well I don't like polarisers for a variety of reasons, mostly due to the loss of contrast.

Of the ND filters, if I could have only one, I'd be torn between the 0.9 & 1.2. 0.6 is definitely too light, 1.8 is definitely too dark & 3.0 is nearly opaque!

My preference for a moon filter is Wratten #29 (deep red) but #58 (green) is also acceptable if you don't mind losing dark adaptation.

They're fiddly & in my experience have a tendency to help the eyepiece fall from its socket (thud!)
