Skywatcher Mercury 705

Recommended Posts

Hi folks

I'm a newbie to all this as I only got my first scope last week

Full moon tonight and first clear sky since I bought it

I must admit I'm a little dissapointed that I cannot see the moons craters in more detail :?

I have been using a 45 deg erecting prism with either a 10mm or a wide angle lens

Can I increase the magnification with another lens and if so what do I need

the spec on the scope is as below

Magnifications (with eyepieces supplied): x20 & x50

Highest Practical Power (Potential): x140

Objective Lens Diameter: 70mm

Telescope Focal Length: 500mm (f/7.14)

Eyepieces Supplied (1.25”): 10mm & 25mm

Thanks

Changing the erecting prism for a 90 degree diagonal and upgrading the supplied eyepiece will improve things.

However, wait a few days and things will improve anyway. Now (full Moon) is the worst time to be viewing the Moon. Later, when the sun strikes it at an angle, detail will be highlighted by shadows.
