DSS - calibrated and registered files

I curently use DSS. I have the option of saving intermediate individual calibrated and/or registered files.

What exactly is a calibrated file?

What exaclty is a registered file?

In essence: Which of these should I keep so that I can discard my original lights, flats, darks, flat darks and bias files, but still have the individual frames that will allow me to more data in future?
