Astronomy GCSE pictures!

For my astronomy GCSE coursework, I've chosen Messier/NGC objects and I'm still fretting over my pictures' quality. I'm new to astronomy and astrophotography, and I don't have a motor drive / DSLR so I've had to rely on my compact camera, afocal photography and GIMP (DSS doesn't seem to work!). Anyway, here is a summary of the pictures. I've shrunk them down because although I would trust loads of people on the forum not to take them, I can't be sure a rogue googler wouldn't!

If you want PM me the raw image and I can have a play for you to see what else is possible. I have most of the tools, Photoshop CS5, PixInsight and others.
