Disabled motor on Celestron C5 vintage

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a celestron C5 vintage telescope on a fork mount with wedge.

The mount has two electrical motors to provide for tracking on RA.

One of the motors has a small sticker on it, saying "DISABLED"

Got this scope from a cousin, and she has no idea why.

Any idea why anybody would disable one of these motors, anybody?

(Nice displays at night with Aurora Borealis here in Ringebu, Norway, lately. Solar activity is speeding up!)

Marcel.

On the old Celestrons the motors were just 110V synchronous minature geared motors and sometimes failed... I can image this may have happened in the past and it was just left there to balance the electrical circuit.
