Help with first auto guider please...

Hi everyone. i recently purchased the LVI smartguider 2 for my equipment. I also bought the meade off axis guider. Last night was my first attempt at setting up and using my autoguider with my C8 on my CG-5...however I could not get it to recognize any stars...

Anyone know a way to check for a focusing position?

Any advise would help and be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
