I've still got the it's amazing stage.. (7yr old)

Spent this morning taking the mirror out and centre marking for collimation. He thought was pretty cool - had to make sure it wasn't play time (we sometimes lark about a lot) since it's the first time I'd had the laser out with him 'involved'.

He certainly knows more than his teachers at school and he's quite happy with nebulae, galaxies and black holes ...

No idea how long it will last but I'm guessing teenage years will involve some non-involvement!

Ah reminds me of a public star evening in the Bettridge Centre (Newtonhill, South of Aberdeen) when a curious 7 year old was looking at the moon through my 12" lightbridge. I asked "can you see any craters?"

He replied, matter of factly

"I don't believe there is any life on the Moon"

Cue much chortling across the field...

Excellent! Exactly what Galileo said when he first saw Luna some four hundred years ago!

...My son is only interested in cricket.

I was down the cricket club with my lad today, and as we came out he spotted Orion's belt & Betlegeuse...then we watched The Wonders of the Universe and how Betlegeuse is a red giant likely to go supernova, and he lerant about how elements are formed in stars, sequentially.

Well, it was great my lad could link sports, the sky, TV, school work, and curiosity all in one go. Not bad for a Sunday evening!
