Light pollution from industry?

I was just thinking (yes it hurts) I live very close to industry (Teesside) and at times the sky can be lit up by the flare stacks, obviously this will cause me some issues when viewing the night sky,

Does anyone else live near a lighting pollution source and what measures can I take to help,

I haven't yet decided which scope to get, as I've just ordered some binos.

Almost everyone in the UK lives near a light pollution source

In the case you describe, I would suggest writing to them. Get in touch with the CdDS on how best to do this. Well written letters can work wonders but you may have to be persistent.
