GOTO great over AUTO?

Recommended Posts

Imho I reckon the goto is a bit of a luxury - most seasoned dob owners have a pretty good knowledge of the skies not to need it.

But I find auto tracking very useful for keeping the object in the eyepiece without constantly nudging. It's also good for short exposure photography of moon/planets. Nowhere near accurate enough for dso's though. Mostly a personal choice I guess :)

so a scope in backyard viewed on my tv and controlled from living room is a pipe dream ?

i dream of winning lotto too :)

Each to their own but, to me at least, thats looking at pictures of objects, rather than looking at the objects. I've seen loads of images of the supernova SN2011b, but this evening, even though it's cold out there, I saw it with my own eye :) - that's what makes it for me :)

As Gaz says, that £300 could buy you 200% more light gathering !.
