Surely, a lot of nebulae do not have well-defined edges, so although it makes the map look pretty, they include a lot of artistic license.

One thing I did very much like about the pictures of the pages is that it seems to show NGC objects like the veil with their shape and size, does it consistantly do this? Are they pretty accurate in scale? Do the free resources online show the same type of images because i could not find anything about it. i might be interested in the book just for that.

I'm guessing that the nebula outlines in both Great Atlas and TriAtlas are based on photographic data, with the cut-off being at a certain level of surface brightness. Whether or not you can actually see down to that cut-off is another matter.
