Selecting between Celestron CGEM and Orion ATLAS EQ-G

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone!

I’ve almost purchased my first OTA and now looking for the mount. My research has helped me conclude to two options: 1) Celestron CGEM 2) Orion Atlas EQ-G

At this point, I’m trying to weight the differences between the two and decide on the mount, but I am having and extremely hard time ?.

I’ve read that the Celestron CGEM has optical encoders inside, making it more precise, however the Atlas seems to be preferred amongst the community. I’ve also read that the CGEM is a lot more noisier than the Atlas, an important factor (If its real).

I’d be very interested in reading on others opinion and helping me decide which of the two to buy. Let me also add that I will be using the setup for Astro photography with my Skywatcher Equinox 120 ED.

Closing, let me thank you all for your help and input!

Chris.
