Quite steady views tonight and a lot of activity in the North Equatorial belt.

The North Polar region was very subtle and hard to see as was the South Equatorial belt. However the image was very bright so I will try reducing the brightness with filters next time.

30th October 2010, 21:40UT - dodging fireworks !

Skywatcher 254mm F4.7 Newtonian, x174, no filters.

Seeing - III mostly, II occasionally.

Thanks Seb,

This drawing was made with the new 10" scope which is excellent optically. This weekend I am going to mod it with a baffled fan to remove the boundary layer from the front of the mirror.

I have high hopes ........

Go for it.

I recently made a thick foam cap for the rear of my SPX with three low speed 80mm fans mounted in it. There is zero vibration at the eyepiece, and it seems to make a difference to the stability of the image, it also means i can be less conservative with my secondary mirror heater as the boundy layer created there is removed too.

The difference was not fantastic, but i am sure it helps.

good luck!
