When goto does not go to

I was at a local star party the other evening..

There was a few gaps in the cloud but about 60% cloud cover.

I managed using my manual efforts to pick up a fair number of objects by star hoping much to the delight of some visitors to the event..

When the sky eventually cleared some of the gotos failed as their batteries were dead...but I was able to keep on finding those objects...

So this was one occassions when the old fashioned knowledge of the sky beat the fancy gotos...

I know some of you will appreciate this story.

I foget to say..a got to was no good with the patchy cloud as they needed three stars to set up!
