Jupiter and noses

Well soon off to bed after spending the night with Jupiter. And what a night. Saw more surface details than ever before despite the moon and a few annoying clouds.

But also had a few problems with the 'helical' focuser of the 130 Heritage.

Finding focus with my ortho at high magnification is troublesome to say the least and when I find focus - my nose and one of the tightening screws on the focuser is in the same spot.

Well blaming the focuser might be a bit harsh - could blame the tiny ortho or my big nose in stead.

I tend to focus by sliding the ep in and out manually and then tightening a thumbscrew once it's focused. You can fine tune using the helical focuser and the screw stays out of your nose. It's really easy to do once you get used to it.

The focuser is the weak point on what is an otherwise excellent scope and this workaround goes a long way to overcome that!

Once you've done it for a while you'll get pretty slick!
