Perseids south of the equator

Recommended Posts

The Perseid shower is not one listed for the southern hemisphere. However, I am at -30 deg and with the radiant at +58 it just creeps over my horizon. So decided to see if I could see any, especially as the maximum was predicted for just 1 hour before it rose for me ( at about 4am ) and that would mean that there could be some Horizon to Horizon meteors:).

I rose from my warm bed at 4am on Thursday 12th and in a half hour watch saw one perseid at mag -2 spanning 20-30 degrees of sky. On Friday morning I got up at 3:30, set up the lounger and watched for 1h45m. I was rewarded with two perseids about mag -2, one travelling over 90 degrees of sky:hello2:. Not the horizon to horizon that I had hoped for but pretty spectacular nonetheless.
