Laptop Query.

I was given a HP Pavillion zv5000 laptop some time ago, by a friend of a friend, who's desktop computer I repaired.

I like this machine very much, the screen displays is perfect, and the battery life is almost 4 hours.

It did have a problem initially, and partially the reason It was given to me, the reason being I could repair the fault.

All that was wrong with it, was the female connector that receives the charging plug from the charger was dodgy, and easily fixed, although I had to remove the casing. Not a big job.

Now, another problem has arisen, and I can't figure it out.

If I charge the battery, the charge indicator lights up And charging proceeds as normal. But, if I switch the power on to run the machine, the charge light goes off, and charging ceases.

I can only charge it when it is powered off.

Any suggestions as to why.? This has just recently started to happen.
