Why do we astronomers buy so much equipment?

I've just looked at the latest offerings from Damian Peach, and he

has, again, taken some astounding images of Saturn, Mars and

the Moon. I looked at the equipment he used and thought ' If I had

that, my pictures would be just as good'.

What rubbish!

Common sense tells me that he spends more time observing, planning and imaging than I ever will, and so he gets the results he has earned. So it's not just down to equipment.

Thank goodness I came to my senses just in time, otherwise I'd be ordering a C14 and a Skynyx.......!!

They are truly stunning images and his skills are amazing ... he also "travels" to get the best conditions possible...

wow. stunning images.

looks like he uses a 12" meade sct - you should be able to improve on these when you get your C14!
